Mine splays but only 50% due to the bump. I cannot splay it flat on my face.

My Bruce splays just fine as well. I love both my RR and Maggards synths. You can't go wrong with either.

You should try the Maggards too, it maybe what you're looking for Smile

I am just looking for the splay of a real Plisson or Stirling Kong, but in a 24mm. I just compared my Whipped Dog 24mm Ubersoft to the Bruce and the WD splays much easier and completely flat. Either that glue bump is higher than normal or the brush is meant to have a lot of backbone. I will definitely buy a Maggard to see how it compares, and see about returning the Bruce.

Hobbyist I have four of the plissoft knots and none have any issue splaying [3 24mm and then the monster] with no significant glue bumps either.

May just be this particular example.

They do have plenty of backbone though and if looking for something with slightly less I would also recommend the DeLuxeShaving Retro 24mm or the ShaveRevolution 24mm. Both solid brushes and a very luxurious face feel.

Good luck and keep us posted!

The RR Plissoft is a great brush. There are many other brands making similar brushes, and the ones I have tried have worked great (Fine, Maggards). Love the synthetic knot.

Just to update, the Bruce turned out to be a terrific brush. It took a couple weeks to get used to the extra backbone but all is good now. However, I also bought a Maggard 24mm which turned out to be exactly what I wanted in a 24mm knot. The handles isn't my favorite but I've grown to accept it. My top 3 synthetics now are the Maggard, Kong, and Bruce, and in that order. The Kong is the best knot of the three since it has no noticeable glue bump whatsoever, but the larger 26mm size prevents me from using it on all of my soaps.

There are indeed a lot of good options out there.

I have 3 synthetics,  The RR Monster, Maggards 24mm Purple handle and the RR 24mm Bruce handle. The Maggards and the RR Bruce are very different.  The Maggards is denser and seems the loft is longer.  At first I did not care for the Bruce but I have warmed up to it but the RR Monster and the Maggards are neck and neck for my favorite.

Speaking of synthetics looks like IB has a new 26 mm with a Bruce handle an then a Chrome 24 mm with silvertip synthetic.  States it is one level softer than the regular Plissoft knot.

I picked up those two last night in fact. Very curious about the synthetic silvertip in the chrome handle.

Plus it just looks amazing!

Will be very interested to hear what you have to say after using it.  I really like my handle on the 24mm Bruce Brush so I think I will have to try the 26mm considering how much I like my RR Monster.  Boy I thought when I found the synthetics I would just get a couple and be done, but now it seems like I need at least two maybe 3 more.  And now this new silvertip synthetic---it never ends.
