Just 12 more posts. Love my Stirling razor

Razor arrived today. If I get a chance I should be using it tomorrow.

Couple of initial impressions before I get to using the razor. I gave both the Konsul and Ambassador the hand feel test. Ambassador feels a little more solid than the Konsul like the handle maybe thicker. It is not a big difference but it is noticable to me. The knurling the Ambassador grabs your fingers better when you try to run them across the handle than the Konsul. With that said I doubt that grip difference will affect the ability to hold the razor while shaving. I understand this is a passaround razor that was not a retail piece but if it was the machining marks on the razor head are unacceptable for something priced in this range. Other than that the Konsul overall looks and feels like a solid razor.

There was also some Rex shave cream and aftershave in the box. I will try the shave cream but not on the first shave. I don't use aftershave or do any stinky stuff except for my own funk so that will stay unused by me.

First shave in. Set the razor to 3 and did a 5 pass shave. On this setting I just managed to cross the BBS line barely but it made it. Impressive in that I've never had this close of a shave with a slant razor. I think the sweet spot for me will be at the 3.5 or 4 setting. Shave felt mild but it did produce a few weepers.

2nd shave in the books. Set the razor to 4 this time. Shave was closer but not significant enough for me to want to use it at this setting on a regular basis. What was significantly different is it tended to pull hair on the neck unlike at the 3 setting. So dialing this up to maybe 3.5 is about the sweet spot if that. Styptic pencil also got a work out on this shave with the amount of weepers on the neck from that hair pull. If you like stealth aggressive then 4 or up is going to be your thing. Definite no question redneck BBS finish.

I also used the Razor Emporium old school shave cream. It lathers well and the scent is I guess like a sandalwood style. If I didn't have about 5+ years worth of shave soap on hand to go through I'd purchase this soap for regular shave use stinky and all. It also makes for a nice aftershave scent if you post shave doesn't include any stinky stuff like my routine is.

Next test is to use a less sharp blade with a fresh edge and worn in edge for 2 more shaves before passing this along. First 2 shaves were with a Bic Chrome Platinum blade, next 2 will be a Gillette Silver Blue.

3rd shave in. This time with a Gillette Silver Blue blade. Razor was set at 3 and all other shave parameters the same as the 1st shave to do as close as possible an apples to apples comparison for 2 different blades on a fresh edges. The shave was good but just shy of a BBS under the chin. Also the overall shave feel was more mild and only 3 weepers due to technique errors. The Bic blade on the other hand for the 1st shave did cross the BBS line but barely, wasn't as mild but not harsh either. The closeness difference has to do with the Bic blades being sharper out of the package than a Gillette Silver Blue not the razor itself.

One more shave to be done with a worn in blade edge on the GSB blade then it is off to Time Bandit
