REX Ambassador Update

Completed my shave with the Rex Ambassador on setting #1.  The mildest setting i think.  Hard to detect if there was even a blade in there!  Took 3.5 passes for a DFS. Obviously no nicks, weepers or irritation.  Probably impossible to cut yourself with this setting but I was very pleasantly surprised at how well the razor did at this setting.  6 hours later and some stubble under my chin is detectable but the rest of my face is still smooth.  For someone like me with sensitive skin this razor is performing very well.  

I also have a OneBlade and the Ambassador on setting 2 is very similar to it.  Except that the OneBlade is milder but just as efficient at removing the beard.  On setting #3 with the Ambassador there isn't any comparison; The Ambassador kicks butt.

At settings 2.5-2.8 the Ambassador is similar to my Gillette Aristocrat and Red Tip.

I used my Ambassador this morning as I have every morning since I got it.  I agee with you your sentiments Bill, that "The Ambassador kicks butt".  What a fantastic razor - the best I have used. Looks like I'll be putting some of my other razors up on B/S/T.

GloryUprising I don't want to make any promises but we are currently working on this exact thing. However I am trying to avoid having it hand polished (that would be a last ditch effort - our shop is slammed enough with polishing Gillette razors for revamp) so instead we are experimenting with electro-chemical polishing since we already have a lab in our shop. If these experiments and a subsequent production process gets further along I will certainly let people know.

I'd love to be able to get a polished version of the Rex, even at an extra cost. Needs to be polished before laser engraving, so DIY polishing of the current one is not an option (can only do the top cap and sides). Any idea of the time frame for a polished version?

Hi Matt,

Great job on the razor - its fantastic. My favorite setting is 3 for the first 2 passes and then I switch down to 2 for cleanup. Love the adjustability. With that said, I am still pretty new to it and may play around with other settings.

In current N1/N2 form, is the finish brushed, media-blasted, or as-machined?

How does the finish compare to the satin chrome on a Variant? Yes, I know the Variant top cap is plated zinc alloy, just looking for a texture/appearance reference. How about compared to what I think is a vibratory polish on the Mamba/GC? Honestly, I'd probably prefer as-machined, slick(ish) with tooling marks over media-blasted.

yes and I believe they will start marking the latest batches with N1, although the N2 and N1 newest batches are exactly the same just different markings

BOops, I meant N1/N2. Fixed it. Since we’re about halfway through the second quarter already, I’d bet there’s more N2 razors already. Either marking is fine with me.

I am curious to see how chemical polishing turns out. If it isn’t successful though, a typical vibratory machine polish seems more than adequate.

Seems that Razorock has taken that route, no messing up with the geometry, cheap and effective and in my opinion looks very nice. Kind of like industrial shine vs the custom high polish by more expensive razors.

I personally like brushed or matte look, nothing wrong with polished finish though

Are not polished ones more prone to scratches etc over a period?

LOL not prone to scratches more but prone to show any small scratches and dents or just regular wear from shaving. The high polish finish that high end razors have in a year of shaving with it, it will be gone and will dull more and more over time
