I have been revisiting some blades lately and the Permasharps and Polsilvers are on the list for this week or two.

I started with the Polsilvers tonight cause all of the hype going on around them. Well not too happy with them, 1st shave in the books and I'm getting micro tugs... After shaving 4 years with safety razors my skin is already accustomed to any aggressiveness on a razor and any sharpness from a blade, naturally now I tend to lean towards no nonsense sharp blades only.

So far Polsilvers are not impressing me at all, they might be smooth but if they are starting off on the 1st shave with micro tugs they wont be considered for a 100 pack purchase... Maybe is a dud or maybe the blade settles in after the 1st shave, time will tell... I wont give up on them though, if this blade still performs the same I will stop at 3 shaves and load another fresh blade, if the new blade still performs the same then I know these blades are just hyped to be sharp.

I'm glad I don't just jump into buying larger packs, first I test then I buy larger order. The same thing happened with the Personna Red's one in the Red packaging and the other in the blue/white claiming to be reds.... I tested 5 in a row from the blue/white packaging ones, what a garbage.... they don't even come close to the true red ones.

Don't matter what reviews say on retailer sites you can not trust them and after 4 years shaving with safety razors of all kinds the only blades that make in the storage are sharp ones.

Once I test them some more will report and also will report on the Permasharps.

Never ceases to amaze me how different are our whiskers. I too prefer the sharper blades, or at least I think I do. I think everyone agrees that Feather Hi Stainless sets the bar for sharp. I love them. My #2 and #3 are Polsilver and Russian Permasharps and the reason I like them is no tugging for three shaves. ( two on the feathers). I can be happy with Personna labs and Astra SPs. In fact all of these blades represent bulk buys for me. Many of the blades others find so wonderful leave me scratching my head. Personna Israelis, Voskhod, Rapira Platinum Lux, leave me wanting.

Many confuse sharpness with smoothness which are not one in the same and one must find the best blade that is the correct balancing act of the two for their respective face. Perma-Sharp Super are sharper initially and Polsilver smoother initially.

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

I have had the same experience with the Polsilvers. The shave result was fine, but quite a bit of tugging and a unpleasant feeling. Its really true that each blade works differently for everyone. I enjoyed the Permasharps, but still prefer the Gillette Platinums for my face and whiskers.

Blades come and go. Are you aware that on approximately August 1, 2016 the Saint Petersburg factory in Russia ceased production on the Poll Silver Super Iridium blade. I stocked up on as many as I could find. I have been using them for many years and they are an incredible blade. While they were made in Russia they were under contract from Gillette now owned by Procter and Gamble. Depending on how long you have owned the ones you are using they may be bootlegged blades which often happens. Once again in my opinion they are excellent.

I also use Perma-Sharp Super blades. They are not as aggressive as Poll Silver but still a good blade none the less.

I do not believe that super sharp blades are excepted by all. Many of them give a very harsh shave. Most of the blades manufactured in Japan fall into this category. I tried a pack of Kai blades and got rid of them.

Polsilver has not been discontinued. This rumor has been confirmed as utter BS repeatedly. Get informed.

Several years ago many of the mail order houses believed that the PolSilver was was discontinued.  They felt that they had adequate and up to date information.  In no way were they trying to BS anyone.  I have not gone to any mail order house in the last few years to look at these blades because I purchased a substantial amount of the PolSilver to last me for a few years.  In addition, there five other blades I use. However, I did recently go to a web site and found the following information.  This eloquently explains the confusion.

…was the blade that all other blades were compared against until they virtually disappeared from western stores a couple of years ago. Super Iridium blades did not actually get discontinued though. When they disappeared from Western stores, it was because of the change in distribution to P&G Poland. The blades however are still being made as always by PPI in St. Petersburg, Russia under license from Gillette USA. With the change in distribution came a change in packaging but by all accounts, these are the same Super Iridium blades that you…
