Review - Taylor Of Old Bond Street / Sandalwood

Going against the grain here, but I've had a hard time finding a TOBS scent that I feel more than lukewarm about; they're too...cologne-ish for me. I've maybe tried half a dozen samples from Maggard. "Mr. Taylor" is decent & the only one I'd buy a full-size container of.

But then, my tastes are very clearly in the minority...

I really love TOBS creams. Heck, I really love the majority of creams made by Chreighton's, and TOBS is no exception.
Something in them agrees very well with my skin. Even better than some well-reputed artisan or expensive soaps.
And for my wallet's disgrace, there's a shop nearby my work that sells them at a nice price.

They perform well, smell nice, they are easy to use even for a beginner, the bowls carry a generous amount at a right price.

Of course, there are better things than TOBS creams out-there. But generally not at this price-point.

Wowsers....I wonder if the change is for the better or worse.

I like the performance and scent of Avocado, but that was years ago. I couldn't stomach the scent of Sandalwood and it turned me off on trying future Sandalwoods.

He said the change happened with the non paraben creams, ad from memory that started with either the Grapefruit or the Cocunut cream from TOBS.

As said, I own all 16 pots of TOBS creams, but rarely use them (you know the size of my collection.....)

I believe I honestly think the new ones perform slightly better, but I haven't checked if the new 'old' scents I bought also are paraben free.

Come to think of it, I had an old Jermyn Street from 2011, that became like a hard croap and bought a new pot, that had slightly different lettering on the label. Must be because it's the new formula. Embarrassingly I haven't tried the new Jermyn Street yet

But the Peppermint, Coconut and Graperfruit all perform great, and these are (pretty surely) made by the new company, and not Creighton.

I also bought the Natural and the Organic, and both performs great. They are also non paraben and 99% surely not Creighton made.

TOBS Sandalwood is a very medicinal cologne sandalwood. Like the newer TF&H Sandalwood is.

DR HARRIS and AOS Sandalwood are far better and more natural sandalwoods. Also Proraso Red is a better more earthy sandalwood imho.
GFT's sandalwood cream is also quite good.

I own the entire line of shaving creams from TOBS, TF&H, GFT and DR HARRIS - so feel free to ask any questions regarding scents.
Also own all the DR HARRIS shaving soaps (all 6 pucks and all 6 sticks) and 4 TOBS shaving soaps (2 pucks and 2 sticks)

Don't own any soaps from GFT nor TF&H for obvious reasons (they suck)

I have an old Jermyn St. bowl that I bought back in 2011 that is nearly coming to an end. And this week I bought a new replacement one (along with a Lavender bowl) at a brick-and-mortar shop here in Lisbon.
I noticed the small differences in lettering and in the bowl itself, but didn't gave much importance to those details. Now I know the reason for such differences.

I still haven't tried the new bowls yet.

I just looked at my tub of TOBS Grapefruit. I purchased it a few years ago and it definitely states Paraben Free under the ingredient list. If this was not made by Creighton then the performance was certainly quite good and what we have come to expect from TOBS.

GFT's sandalwood cream is also quite good.

The Proraso Red is the most relaxing scent I know--if I ever need to shave in the evening, that's the one I turn to.

I also like the Italian Barber sandalwood, but that seems to be too earthy for most people.
