Gents, I wrote a review, here, of some of the excellent lather bowls you all recommended to me over the past year, including the Captains Choice (copper and ceramic), Aesop, Symmetrical Pottery, and Pereira Unbreakable. I thought I'd pass on in case helpful. Thanks and happy shaves.

The Sori Yanagi Martian (also sold by Aesop) is a nice bowl, for sure. Great review of all those bowls!

By the way, this caught my attention: “You can scoop a precise amount of soap, and introduce a precise amount of water over time. Additionally, while the benefits may be entirely psychological, I do prefer not to introduce water into my soaps in the hope that they will last longer.”

That’s one reason why I’ve been loading from a bowl for months, now. It’s nice to not have to wait for a soap to dry, and to know that water hasn’t seeped into the sides or bottom of the jar. However, since I’ve also been weighing everything for a while, it’s curious how much less soap I need when loading directly from a jar, compared to if I want a similar lather from a bowl. Not sure how to explain that, and perhaps I’ll have to do some more testing still.

Nice write up ALI I like the points you covered. I don’t think there is anything wrong with bowl lathering as long as you enjoy the process and results you get from the shave. I have never tried any of those bowls but the Aesop seems like it would work well for me. Maybe I like the shape and material they use, seems durable.

Came across this thread while thread digging. ALI I'm curious what lather bowl or bowls you are favoring lately?

Thanks keto … I rotate between the Captains Choice Copper, Periera, and Symmetrical Pottery at the moment.
