Do any of you folks keep it in the original packaging and lather by hand? I'm thinking of doing this, but the alternative (I don't like grating soaps) is to pick up the nice ceramic jar version from the official website.

I grated mine into a separate container and it's working well for me. So the design was to transfer the puck somewhere else to load, and then return it to the container to dry?

shevek I think the idea was exactly that - load the soap while holding it in your hand, then return to the container to dry.

Has anyone tried using the puck as a shave-stick as it seems to be a great solid consistency for that exact purpose?

Peter, is it just because you find it too hard? I was sent a sample of both the original and the Tempete, but they were both grated. Unfortunately, the soap caused quite a bit of redness and I am not sure what the cause was. I wondering if I am allergic to donkey's milk. This was my first experience with it, but it was, probably, another ingredient in the soap. This was a bit unfortunate as I did enjoy the scent and its performance.
Oh, well. It isn't as though I am lacking soaps.
