Okay folks. I have come to the conclusion that my favorite shaver is a LC NEW. It's also my ugliest razor. This thing looks like an old garden tool. The finish is completely off so it's kind off tricolor. Two or three of the end combs are bent. I regretted buying the thing until I shaved with it and totally fell in love. I bought a beautiful SC thinking that they would shave the same and I just don't really get along with the SC.
Should I spend the money to make the LC look better or just enjoy it the way it is? The only reason I'm second guessing myself is because of the bent teeth.
I guess another option would be to post the SC as a trade for another LC. Maybe two of the same type would shave more similar.
Anyone get a razor with bent teeth replated?

Frankly, if you can get an inexpensive NEW LC with the teeth in perfect order, I would go that route. Then, if the razor needs a bit of tarting up, you can have it done to a razor in perfect working order.

You should check out Delta Echo Razors. I have a Gillette Slim and NEW SC that have been replated by them.

My only concern is the bent teeth. They are not that easy to fix.

Yeah, exactly Freddie. That's my concern as well. It obviously does not stop the thing from providing a great shave. But, seems like painting a car without repairing the body work. I just can't get myself to commit to that.

I wouldn't waste the money on one with bent teeth. They are very hard to fix. I would do like Freddy says and find one in better shape and then fix it up if need be.

This one certainly could not be fixed. The teeth look like they twisted when they were bent, not just bent inward. There is no way 80 year old brass would go back without failing.

I guess I should of clarified, I purchased mine straight from their site. You can get a LC from them in 2 different color themes.

To answer Brent's question that I missed, I would not send a bent tooth LC to be replated. I would purchase another and send it someone to replate it if necessary. Personally I like the color options from Delta Echo, my SC is in a Bronze and Copper color scheme.

Shaven in the Past
I'm a shinny guy. I say buy it a new coat. I've seen nickel plated ones that look beautiful. Of course gold would be alot more cash but would restore closer to factory look.

Just to throw another opinion in the pot, remember that Brent said it's his favorite razor. With all the YMMV caveats out there, I'm sure you're aware that two different examples of the same razor CAN shave differently. Defying logic as they do, it does happen.

I remember Matt of Razor Emporium, in one of his YouTube videos, saying that bent teeth are repairable under certain circumstances, and that it requires a 'look see' to assess the possibility. The ones that Matt has done have, apparently, looked like they were never bent.

It might be worth an inquiry to Matt or the Captain who works closely with Chris at Razorplate.com and see what they have to say. If no joy, then the acquisition of another specimen for plating would be in order.
