Nothing.

I was just kidding around.

It's a little bit more solidly built and the handle is different. Also the end caps are not soldered on. Little different things in the details.

Doesn't make it actually better than the US red tip.

I really wasn't being snarky. It wasn't the first time I had read that shavers prefer the quality of the British Red Tip over the US. I wouldn't mind having one to do a side by side comparison... Big Grin

This is one of the Gillette's that remain in my vintage collection. Great razor for sure. I know we have tons of nice razors on the market, but they don't make razors like this any more.

Not really better in terms of shaves for me, but I like the smoothness when you turn the knob on the Rocket. They are both great razors, just built a little differently. One is more rugged, and the other a little smoother. I love having them both.

On topic, I agree. The Red Tip is one smooth razor. The first time I used it, I was a bit apprehensive because I heard it was on the aggressive side.

I was like, "this isn't so bad?" It's not very aggressive at all. By the 3rd pass I'm really digging it. Very smooth and just the right amount of aggression.

It didn't give me the closest shave, but it was gentle and efficient enough that with proper technique and experience, I am sure this razor right up there on the top shelf.

Thanks, Teddyboy for posting this thread! I pulled out my A4(4th quarter 1955) Gillette Super Speed Red Tip razor yesterday afternoon and paired it with a Personna Blue. I had a really nice comfortable 3 pass shave. Yup, the vintage razors keep pulling me back, even with all of the shiny new toys coming onto the scene recently.

I am a big fan of pairing the FT SS with a Feather blade for a close and super smooth shave. I dont have a RT in my arsenal so I cant say for sure on this particular model. If you have a Feather blade, can you try it and give it a spin to see if it plays out the same, or if its a combo not suited for happiness? Just looking to further my theory, if even vicariously Smile

I got my Red Tip on eBay years ago and it has never left my rotation.  This inexpensive Gillette DE is a classic for a reason and it is razors like these that make it difficult for me to pay a king's ransom for the supposed latest and greatest (though that doesn't mean I don't want a few of them Tongue).
