Reasons for "Liking"

I've been wondering why folks "like" particular posts here. I've been confused about whether that means, for example, that you like the products shown in an image of a SOTD setup or a brush or razor, or that you like the artful composition of the image... Or, to give another example, that you like a product being reviewed or discussed - or that you like the thoughts expressed by the person who posted...
I think I sometimes "like" for one or the other of those reasons sort of inconsistently.

I "Like" the effort that folks put into their SOTD photos or posts and try to give as many thumbs up and likes as possible. I may not like every single item shown, or particularly care for their way of writing but im not petty enough to pick their post apart or drag them down for it.
Its just my way of participating and encouraging others to continue posting. That's just my two cents brother.

If I like anything about the post whether it's what somebody said, a picture, a product, whatever, I tap the thumbs up. Thus, I've doled out a lot of them!

I would rather be posting a like on written posts. I do find that the pictures in a post are simply easier to like because it is visual reaction. I like a lot of your photos. I see them and I think I would like to try a brush like that if I had the chance. I enjoy the gear I use very much, but a like is kind of like my way of saying I hope you enjoyed the gear you chose to use for a shave. As Macho camacho said, sometimes I keep a like going is in the sotd thread. It is a pretty direct input to participate in either through a picture or a written detail of what your shave setup was. People should use what works best for them so likes should be looked at as a benefit, but not necessarily always a necessity to a great post. At the size DFS is at now, I think most posts that are from a quality person who makes a quality post are seen by many people. That would bad if there was more traffic and in addition, more negative activity along with it. That may discourage people from participating.

SOTD: includes my favorites, nice photo helps., FYI - list of shaving items really helps newer shavers

All Other: 1) responded to my question/post in positive manner 2) appreciate the helpful advice i can or will use 3) someone else has my shaving "hot button"

I always appreciate anyone's input or effort into any specific area on the forum, especially, the SOTD section, where most of my 'likes' are clicked.

Hi churchilllafemme , good question - I "like" posts for may reasons. First being that I actually like the post I'll like the effort of a poster in framing a SOTD or the effort and information such as in your fragrance terms thread which is amazing, thank you. Sometimes a like is an acknowledgement of a comment or agreement without actually posting a response and often its recognition and encouragement for just getting out there and getting involved in the discussion which is what DFS is all about right?

Like you churchilllafemme , I tend to "like" inconsistently. I'll "like" for most any reason but don't always do it the same way. Some days it's because I own the gear and enjoy it while other days it may be because I would like to try the gear.

But what I found most intriguing about this thread is that no one had "liked" your original post as of the time I read the thread. So in this instance, I am "liking" your post because how can a question on "Likes" not receive at least one "Like"

Are you kidding? I'm going to like everything you post because you have the coolest gadgets on the planet. Coolest razors, coolest soaps, coolest frags.

All seriousness though, I "like" to applaud well thought out posts, or cool pics, or gear that I appreciate. I like sometimes to avoid having to type "me too" in response to a post.

For reference, I think I liked every post in this thread so far.

I "like" posts for many reasons, much like most every post in this thread. I "like" posts, because I appreciate what folks are trying to express in their posts. I haven't been as active in the SOTD threads since I moved this past Fall, because I've been busy for months and I want to contribute to the threads with my own SOTD picts, but time and change of my "venue" has been frustrating for me for a while.(I can't seem to get the picture quality where I want it in the new house. Due to lighting mostly) When I do keep up with the SOTD's, I truly enjoy seeing what all of you are using and enjoying from day to day. Also, there seems to be many members here who are very talented with composition, lighting, and whatnot in your picts.

OK, enough rambling by me! My "likes" are for a multitude of reasons: great picts, educational input, and just you guys being thoughtful and intelligent about your posts! It's kind of my way of saying, "Thank you! I appreciate where you're coming from."
