Hi, just finished shaving with the RR Old type 5 minutes ago.

Good first impressions, pretty efficient while still being relatively mild. It's not the best razor I have ever tried but at this price, this is a great deal. I would liken my experience with the Parker 24c, similar efficiency but I find the Old type a bit milder.

I would probably rank this razor higher if I wasn't so enamored with my current favorite which is simply fantastic. With that said, I would recommend this over the Maggards V3A which is too harsh in my experience, or the Fine slant which is more efficient but too harsh as well.

The handle is pretty solid, heavy and nicely done, knurling isn't deep but enough that grip shouldn't be a problem. The head is definitely Zamak, I would say I find the head slightly too thin and too light but then again I didn't have the Gillette old type, I have no point of reference to compare but looking at pictures, they do look very much alike. The razor is definitely bottom heavy.

It's a good razor. I prefer this over my other razors, and for the price I think you're getting a good deal if you like open combs.

Hopefully.

I haven't tried Dorco prime razors though but you know our mantra, YMMV. I hope the OLD type works well for you.

How'd it work out EastCoastshaver ? I have been sitting on my Razorock Old Type for a bit but was finally able to quit using my Timeless long enough to give it a whirl.

The finish on the RR Old Type is better than others I have seen in this category. Handle is brass and I find it quite nice, with quality knurling. Shave itself is mild yet efficient. I do prefer the OC design of the Jaws/Rake but am very happy with the performance of the Old Type, particularly at $15 price point.

Wouldn't hesitate to recommend, particularly to those new to OC razors and looking to give them a shot.

I wanted the old type and jaws but both are sold out. The Gillette old type is one of my favorites, but I hear the rr one is much more mild

I have a couple and are quite happy with them, the old is my favourite. I just bought the heavy duty for the handle but will try it and see how it works as a travel razor.
