Razorock Lupo

Finally got my first shave with the Lupo .95, today.

Wow! This thing is smooooth. The Lupo took down 4 days growth to BBS in 2 passes on total mindless cruise control.

I’ve had a WR1 .94 OC for several years and it’s still my top DE but the .95 Lupo is truly something special. The .94 WR1 has more blade feel and is more efficient which is my preference but the Lupo .95 is the smoother shaver by a noticeable margin. I’m guessing this is due to less blade exposure on the Lupo vs the WR1.

The closest comparison I can make to the Lupo .95 is the RS-10 Aggressive Plate. That’s a razor I continue to love and use regularly but the Lupo matches it in smoothness and beats it in efficiency. The Lupo .95 is an absolute gem of a razor and IMO, the best razor Italian Barber has ever made. Kudos to them on this affordable and accessible masterpiece of wet shaving.

I’m already looking forward to more shaves with the Lupo.

The Lupo .95 is definitely in my top smoothest yet efficient razors: RS-10 Aggressive, Paradigm 17-4, Paradigm Diamondback, Yates H, and the ATT Windsor H with the Pro top cap. I only have WR2’s in 1.55 but I’d imagine the lower gap WR2’s would also be in the conversation.

Really looking forward to hearing more feedback on this razor and hoping Joseph and Michael are willing to push the blade gap options even higher.

Had another face shave with the Lupo .95 and decided to also do a head shave just to see how it handled much more growth. Wow, once again. This thing combines smoothness and efficiency like no other razor I’ve used.

The main metric I use for this is the ability to go against the grain under my chin, first pass. There are more efficient razors but none I’ve used can do this without some amount of irritation. There are smooth razors that although they can make the pass without irritation, they just don’t remove all of the hair in one pass. The Lupo achieved BBS under my chin in one pass with some small touch ups.

My friend LOOT pointed out some years ago concerning the WR1, as the gap increases, so does smoothness. Well, it seems like Razorock made some tweaks to blade exposure and overall geometry to improve upon the design in a very noticeable way. I want to see the Lupo in some monster gap so badly now, haha.

I’ll try and take some side by side comparison pictures of the Lupo and the WR1 .94 when I get a chance but just casually looking at them, they seem a bit different and the gap on the WR1 actually appears larger.

Anyways, for me a RAD killer will never exist because new razors will always exist but the Lupo .95 could be that killer for those looking for one.

Would love to hear Frank’s (Dragonsbeard) feedback on the Lupo .95 if he ever gets some time. His soap and splash gave me a perfect head and face shave today.

How would you compare the .72 Lupo to the Gamechanger .84? I am trying to decide. I like my Rockwell 6 with plate 5/6 as my regular driver.

IMHO, the new Lupo SS .72 is a tad smoother than the GC .84.  I believe the new Lupo .72 has less blade chatter than the GC .84 which accounts for this.  With that said, the GC .84 is a little more efficient than the new Lupo .72, but requires more attention while shaving.  The new Lupo .72 is an autopilot, little attention type shaver.  After a few shaves and getting comfortable with the new Lupo .72...I am able to shave quickly with little attention and get a near BBS shave (3 pass).  With a little clean-up it is a "real BBS" (24 hours to a beard shadow).  I never got to that point with the GC .84, even after repeated shaves over several weeks.  I too use the 5 plate with my Rockwell 6, when I use it.  The Rockwell 6 has a larger and heavier head (think airliner) compared to the lighter, thinner head of the new Lupo (think fighter plane).  The new Lupo has better handling and maneuverability than the Rockwell 6.  I paired my new Lupo SS .72 with a Tibam Titanium Bobcat Handle, which created near perfect balance and weight distribution (90mmx12mm handle).  I have not shaved with the new Lupo SS .95 or OC version, so I cannot comment on those versions.  IMHO, the new Lupo SS my be the best value in a stainless steel razor in today's market...based on the price, razor quality and shave quality.  Unless Razorock can come up with anything better, it should be around for a long time.

Thanks for your tempting me *ahem* valuable feedback. I now find myself checking italian barber a couple of times a day to see if they have it back in stock.

The only question in my mind is which is more comfortable - the Yates H plate or the Lupo 0.95. I have seen differing opinions on this thread.

I will realistically probably get both. But, I think I will try to wait to test the Yates EH plate. Lupo FTW right now!

My Yates H plate is on loan to a friend and I’ve slept since the last time I used it, haha. Better to be safe and get them both

^^^ LMFAO...how? I've looked every other day or so since initial release, and they are always sold out when I look. I've given up. Knowing me, I'll visit IB in abotu 3 months; if it;s available, I'll get a 72 Lupo. If not, no loss afaic.

I'm considering grabbing an aluminum again at some point. So much excitement with these new Lupos makes me wonder if I should have kept the Alum version (I prefer lighter razors). Probably not a big run on that one though. Lol.

After reading the comments above regarding the RS-10 Aggressive plate, I thought I’d compare my newly arrived Razorock Lupo DC.

I used two second use Perma-Sharp blades, and the results were interesting. The 0.95 SB side of the Lupo baseplate was relatively close to the RS-10 Aggressive plate, but was most definitely not smoother. Neither was it more efficient. It did shave very nicely, though.

The 0.72 OC side also gave a very nice shave. It’s not as smooth as the RS-10 Mild plate, but also gave a very nice shave.

What did surprise me was the lack of blade feel from the Lupo. I was expecting it to have more blade feel that the GC 0.84 and this didn’t prove to be the case.

So in conclusion, for me, the RS-10 provides a better shave than the Lupo DC.

The shave the Lupo provides, though, is very good. It also offers excellent value for money.
