A Fatboy is always an upgrade and sometimes you have to push the budget a little.  I'm only mentioning razors that I have experienced.  As andrewjs18 mentioned, a Feather AS-D2 was available in the BST and would be a great razor within budget, even new you can find them as low as $138 sometimes if you watch the prices. That is a sweet razor.  I'm just throwing out suggestions of what I think based on my experience are good razors.  If you went the vintage replete route via razorplate.com you would have plenty of time to save up for the ultimate price (which is reasonable IMO) because it would take Chris 6 months to get to it and he doesn't charge you until its done.

He didn't said anything for budget pushing, hr also cleared up buying another brass Gillette us not an upgrade and I agree with him because ss is an upgrade over brass. I would never pay that much for a used and abused Fatboy, would spend my money on ss razor and the 6s will way outlive Fatboy considering has no moving parts, it's ss and cheaper option if the Fatboy is replated

No need to cry out loud lol, I did also stated my opinion but I did not agree with your opinion. Still at the end of the day fact is Rockwell is made of better material, will out last fatboy by a huge margin, this is subjective and OP mileage may wary but for me the Rockwell gives me just as nice shaves as the fatboy and feels balanced and easy to use just as the Fatboy. A very well kept Fatboy with low mileage will cost him from 150-200 and that's a fair asking price for a great razor in great shape. Now you can find a beat up Fatboy for 60-80 bucks but even after cleaning it you always know you will need to replate it.

Its up to OP, his wallet his choice.

Considering brass is great metal for razors in reality I'm also not sure why he wants to upgrade at all... Now if RAD kicked in, that's a whole new story and its not an upgrading, its lusting!!! haha

There are a lot of different "upgrades" out there. We do not know if the OP intended to mean an upgrade in materials, craftsmanship, performance, value, or experience. Any opinion that addresses an upgrade to any one or combination of those things is a valid opinion.

You have assumed the OP meant an upgrade in materials, unless I have missed that response somewhere within this topic. I don't believe that question has been answered as of yet.

I understand what you mean, and I see that you have limited your opinion to an upgrade in material, but it is not the only possible upgrade. For example, a Wolfman brass would be an upgrade in craftsmanship over a Gillette Old Type. Identical material, completely different razors, and a definite upgrade.

So you see how your answer to the question is not the only correct answer. The OP merely stated that he wished for an upgrade. We are all presuming what is implied with that word in our opinions... That's what makes these topics fun; not the arguments...

The current Rockwell razor would be a bargain for you and in your budget. Stainless steel and the different plates make for a different razor in use. The quality is there and the design is very, very good. A good handle on the Rockwell also. I purchased a Feather As-D2 used for under $100 and I couldn't tell it from new. I think over all the Feather is my consistent favorite but, the Rockwell shaves equally as good for me. I don't see the idea of brass not being durable as there are many brass razors that are still in use and are probably on their 3rd or 4th generation using them? Seems plenty durable to me? If you're going to drop your razor on the floor even stainless steel will bend or break. Just MHO!!!

That's 20 below his budget price but aluminum is not an upgrade over brass to be honest, I have seen lots of aluminum razors selling with Caution on them " threads are gone"

I know that the aluminum used in now a day razors is some sort of aluminum that's used in the airplanes, might work for airplanes but looks like when it comes to friction screw in and screw out it gets damaged over not so long period of time.

While I can't speak to all the aluminum razors out there, my AlumiGoose does not have aluminum threads on the razor head, it appears to use a stainless-steel 'stud' which is affixed to the aluminum head in some way (probably threaded into the cap with a thread-locker compound used to secure it in place). There should be no bungled-thread issues with the AlumiGoose.
