After a couple of months of DE shaving with my EJDE89, my curiosity got the better of me and I have tried a few other razors. A found a Red Tip and a Slim locally and a NEW LC off of an auction site.
When I shave with the Red Tip and Slim I can feel the safety bar gliding along my skin without really feeling the blade. I get really consistent DFS or DFS+ shaves that are Super comfy and free of irritation. This is a much different feeling than the EJ or the NEW. I feel way more blade from those razors. Actually, I feel way LESS safety bar from the EJ and the NEW. Shaves with the three piece razors tend to be slightly closer.
I don't know if this is correct or not. I know that the added comfort from the TTO Gillettes gives a slightly less close shave than the other two. In case some are wondering, my shaves with the Slim have been on setting 5&7.
Now, I'm torn between making a commitment to stick with the more comfy TTO razors until I can get them to shave BBS close or go back to the three piece razor for a while and get my angle dialed in so that I feel the safety bar and still get my BBS closeness.
Or am I making much ado about nothing? I'm sure in due time all this nonsense will come into focus; but, that's what I have you folks and is forum for, right?

I tend to get great shaves from both safety bar and open comb but, generally I'm more likely to get a BBS from an open comb than a safety bar.

Honestly, I think you'll eventually build complete confidence in both and it will just amount to what kind of shave you're in the mood for at any given time.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
