I think the Wolfman is a better buy and will only grow in worth over the years. I already have a stainless WR2 DC 1.25 and it is a better shave than my RS10 stainless A plate. I am leaning toward a WR1 DC .86 in titanium anyway. If I do that, I would probably sell my stainless WR1 DC .74 or just keep all of them.

Raw Shaving RS-10: A Serious Contender

I have owned the Raw Shaving RS-10 for almost a month and have had 10-12 shaves with it, so I thought I would write a brief review.
After first becoming aware of the RS-10, I was surprised to find that there was not much information available on the various forums or on Reddit and I was only rarely seeing it mentioned in the same conversation with other premium DE razors like Wolfman, Timeless, Blackland and Charcoal.

I reached out to my buddy Mark (ShaveMD) to get his thoughts and he gave the RS-10 a glowing recomendation. He recommended using the Mild plate with a Feather blade and called it one of the smoothest and most efficient razors in collection, which most of you know is quite formidable.
Next, I contacted Avi, the owner of Raw Shaving, and after exchanging a few emails I placed my order. Avi is a true pleasure to work with and answers emails promptly. Two days later, my new RS-10 arrived.

The initial presentation is very impressive and most are familiar with the amazing box set. The craftsmanship is excellent and the polish is on par with other razors like the Paradigm and the Blackbird.

I loaded up the Mild plate with a new Feather blade and started my first shave. I was expecting the razor to feel a lot like my Blackbird (because the razors share some design elements); however, I was surprised to find that the head geometry was completey different. The Blackbird is very blade forward and I sometimes need to hunt for the angle a bit. The Blackbird is certainly efficient, but not one of the smoothest razors.

The RS-10, on the other hand, was so smooth, that I questioned whether I had actually installed the blade. With virtually zero blade feel, the results of the first pass blew my mind. I had nearly a one-pass DFS after shaving WTG. After a follow up pass XTG, I was done with little to no touchup.
The shave is as smooth as glass and yet still brutally efficient. It is actually quite remarkable. I own most of the other “premium" razors that compete against the Raw RS-10 and the only razor that comes close to combining this level of efficiency with such smoothness is my Paradigm 17-4.

Are there any negatives? To be honest, not many. I woud prefer the handle be slightly lighter. I also think the marketing approach may be a little too “alpha male” for some traditional wet shavers. Other than that, the razor itself is an absolute gem.

I would give the Raw Shaving RS-10 my highest recomendation. It combines brutal efficiency with one of the smoothest shaves I have ever had. The build quality and customer service are commensurate with the price and Avi is a pleasure to do business with. This new entry in the premium market is a serious contender and if you enjoy shaving as much as I do, you owe it to yourself to give it a try.

I've really been curious about this one, thanks for the write up.

Well, I just received an email from Avi at Raw Shaving and it looks like the limited Titanium run has been canceled. After 55 people signed up on the pre-order list, only 12 people made the 50% deposit to move the project forward. All deposits will be promptly refunded.

I was one of the 12 too. It's a shame more didn't follow through on their word. I thought getting 50 of the 55 was a long shot, but I am surprised it wasn't more than 12.

I actually dropped out before the deposit was due because as many times in the past that I have talked to Avi, he just stopped answering emails. I sent numerous emails in reference to his shaving brush and he was supposed to let me know when they would
be available again. After sending several emails, I never got a response. Non communication is a deal breaker for me and I noticed that he stopped communicating after I politely passed on the first offer for the titanium RS-10. I also feel that the price is high on this razor even with both plates considering I can get a dual comb Wolfman with different blade gaps on either side for about $100-$125 less. Just my thoughts and opinion folks.

My experience with Avi has been excellent, even after I returned my original RS10 he responded to my emails quickly. I emailed him yesterday and he answere within an hour. Just thought it important to know the other side.

I am sure he has his reasons, but I am a bit surprised that he decided to scrap the entire project. If I am not mistaken, the first production run of Titanium was for only 10 razors, so perhaps the second run should have been for 20-25 razors and I think (in another month or so) he could easily have hit that mark. I am a bit disappointed because I am such a fan of the SS version that I would really love to have a Titanium version.

Interesting. I have exchanged over 40 emails with Avi over the past two months and have never had to wait longer than a few hours for a reply. He has always been extraordinarily courteous and goes above and beyond the call of duty answering questions and providing advice and support. I am sorry to hear that your experience has been different. Also, you mention Wolfman...I have never been able to get a single email response from James Dufour unless an order has already been placed. Not exactly a communication-friendly business model, but it doesn't seem to turn people off of Wolfman razors.

I do agree with you that the price points (on both razors) are a bit high compared to the competition. I think that at $295 for the stainless steel version (with both plates) would have been the best starting point at launch. That would also allow the titanium version to be offered for $400-$425 and it would have garnered more interest from people who are already fans of the company and of the RS-10. I think the RS-10 is one of the (if not the best) razor in my collection because of its unique blend of smoothness and efficiency. The only razor that comes close is my 17-4...now, I just want that titanium version!
