Raw Shaving - New Razor Co

These “Why are expensive razors worth it?” discussions are as frequent as they are pointless. Some men love to use high end razors and find they deliver better, more enjoyable shaves. And some men don’t see the value when more affordable razors work well, too. Both are fine and neither should be shamed. Find the products that pique your interest, fit your budget, and give you the best shave. If that’s a $5 Weishi then congratulations. And if it’s a $1000 EBay BBS-1, congratulations as well. What’s overrated and overpriced to one person is an heirloom piece to another. Neither person is incorrect so let’s just let it go and bond over our shared enjoyment of wet shaving.

Shane’s comments are on point. This thread has only made me respect Blackland more.

I can never understand why companies that have the skillset to be original copy contemporary designs.

Well we allowed and accepted companies to copy & paste others work, the knock offs started in the handle market that had many supporters and now it’s moving into the razor market. I’m not going to say whether it’s right or wrong but for me I perfer to spend my money with original work.

No Problem and sorry just being completely honest. Personally I can afford all of these companies razors, but why pay twice the amount for a razor that another razor can provide the same results.

 

What can your $225 Blackbird DE razor do that is so different than a $50 Rockwell 6C or $100 6S or Merkur or any of the RazoRock line up? If you can provide me with some significant advantage besides someones review on the razor than I will look into trying it.

Frankly, I’m flattered to be in the company of the great shaving brands you consider overrated so no need to apologize. We’ll also be hitting a more budget-friendly price point within a couple months so maybe it will be more your style then.

Good to know. I've been thinking about getting a Karve razor for travel since I don't like bringing my ATT and Blackbird on the road. Maybe I'll wait for your new design before I purchase. What is the time frame?

Why raw I wonder?

I usually don't aim for raw when I shave. Just saying.

Although I do think the threaded brush knot is neat. The handle it goes with, not so much my style.

That lubricating contraption looks silly. So complicated.

The response I received about how there mid-aggressive razor compares to Timeless, Blackland, or Charcoal Goods was that they never used any of these razors and if they did it is hard to compare.

Currently looking like May or June. Of course I’ll give updates with details as we get closer.

I was contacted by the company after my post and was asked why I did not state that they would let me try both the mild and mid aggressive plates to try without charge for the 2nd plate and I could return it if I didn’t like it, or keep both plates if I did.  So to be fare This is a copy of the email

Thank you for reaching out. To be completely honest with you, I did not shave personally with either ones of the razors you mentioned. I think even if I would, it will be hard to say since shaving with a DE razor it’s a really subjective. In the end of the days, it comes to how close and how comfortable the shave is.
If you're interested, I will be happy to send you the two versions plate that we have, so you can test it. If you like it, keep them both with no extra charge, if the Clear- Cut razor is not for you. You can return for full credit.

Every person on this forum would be just fine with a Gillette Tech and Proraso if they had to. A razor must shave well, but it’s missing the point to think that’s the only factor driving a purchase.
