Thought this might be a fun topic as I was just thinking about it this morning and I'm just curious as to what razors some of you would consider the rarest or some may use the words unobtainium or hard to find modern razors. I'll be clear I'm not talking about Gillette Toggles or Double Rings etc. as I consider those vintage. I"m talking about modern razors.

This is my beginning list of razors I'd consider rare/hard to find/unobtainium and expensive to very expensive if you can find one.  I'm sure there are others.

BBS1 Titanium - if anyone knows for sure how many were made I'd like to know but I think it was 10
Paradigm Titanium 1 - I know 51 were made as I have one.
Raw Shaving RS 10 Titanium - Only 10 of those were made.
BBS1 SS - Not sure how many of these were made.

Paradigm SE Ti
Paradigm Diamond Back
Paradigm Ti ii

I guess any Paradigm fits this category, these are just what I have.

I do believe that the SE Ti is the smoothest razor ever made, and the Diamond Back is among the smoothest.

He sure made some great shaving razors and it's a shame things didn't work out for him. I've got the Ti 1 which was his first and also the 2020 Diamondback High polished and it is one super smooth and nicely efficient/effective razor.

I used a SE Ti for about a week a friend sent me to try and it was an excellent shaver.

You want rare I give you very rare. I once had a BBS prototype #2. I believe there were only 3 or 4 made. I paid $100 including shipping from LA. I shaved with it was not impressed and sold it for what I paid for it to a razor maker. I won't say who it was. Was that dumb or what. Today I could have gotten an easy two grand for it.

I think to call a modern razor rare, it should have unique design. I believe Janus is one of them. Since no other artisan released anything close to him.

There are so many alternatives. You get WR2 razors quite similar to BBS-1. If you want Raw RS10 ti with more efficiency, get a Blackbird Ti.
Paradigm DEs are rare, but they have quite simple head designs. Rocnel released so many updated versions.

Yeah I’d call that rare and I’m sure a serious collector would pay top dollar for that one.

I think we all have those types of stories

I’d have to add the Janus to that list and the prototype would be at the head of the Janus list.

Agree there are alternative that shave similar or maybe even better than some unobtainable razors but for serious collectors ( I’m not one ) but I know some they want the real thing.

Example, I’ve been messaged so many times throughout the years from collectors that want that Paradigm Titanium 1 and been offered a lot for it but haven’t taken the offers so far. A Blackland Ti is an excellent shaving razor to me but to a collector how it shaves isn’t always their main concern. A razor case for a vintage Double Ring razor just sold for $2,000 just for the case! Crazy but true.

I only care design rareness. I don't think unobtainable razors are really rare.
I purchased three Paradigm Ti v1 (for myself, father and friend) from one person, when Paradigm released DiamondBack.
When I got BBS-1, the seller had 7 or 8 more BBS-1 in his den.

So who nabbed that BBS-1?

Looks like 421 SS and maybe 20 titanium were made (plus prototypes - I've seen a photo of a brass one). Hard to say for sure about titanium as they weren't serialised.
