I lost what was in my cart four different times. That was a frustrating experience.

I got my first choice as well, 28mm Buttersctoch Falstaff. What was your choice?

I chose the 24mm Falstaff in Jade.

In the announcements they said that it wasn't actually bought until you completed the check out process. This is how the tool they use works and there's not much they can do about it. I guess once you're in the actual checkout phase you have 5 minutes where it's locked, other than that someone else can take it from you. So putting something in your cart and browsing for something else leaves you at risk.

I got mine in the cart and checked out immediately without any issues.

First of all, congrats to Ken and his team for a successful release.

My experience was the same as UngerWoo I was on the site exactly at 2 CST, put 2 brushes in my cart, proceeded immediately to checkout, and was told they were sold out. I've been on the site trying to buy a brush that shows in stock, and proceeding to checkout shows sold out.

While I probably don't NEED my 7th Paladin brush, I don't know what I could have done differently to have obtained the ones I wanted.
All the best,

dfoulk, I saw that in the announcement so I did not shop around after placing a brush in my cart. I got it in my cart and tried to proceed to checkout four different times (three lotus brushes and a sumo) and each time it said my cart was empty as I tried to proceed.

I can't complain too much because I did eventually land a butterscotch Sherlock, but there were several others I was trying to get first. And it'll be my third Paladin, so it's not like I'm desperate.

That's exactly what I did. I knew which one I wanted (28mm Ivory Falstaff) before the sale went live. I got in, put it in the cart, then immediately checked out. No problem.
I imagine those who missed out likely tried to get more than one brush.

I thought they only let you buy one brush, which could have been part of the problem.

I think the best bet it to choose fast and get into the checkout phase as quickly as humanly possible. I had the criteria already set for the brush I wanted, refreshing the page repeatedly until it showed up. I clicked on it to buy it immediately, and got into the checkout as fast as possible before someone else chose the same brush as I did and beat me there. By having the brush criteria set to in stock as well as the other criteria to narrow it down further it took away the browsing time I would have needed to find it.

Shopping for something else opens you up to someone else checking out with the same item you chose. So while you were finding the second brush someone else got the first one from you and quickly bought it. Then once others are in there browsing and looking around you are more apt to get things taken from your cart.

It's set up where you've gotta shop like a man, get in, get what you need, and get the hell out of there.

My wife wouldn't stand a chance at getting a brush from there.

The way we've learned it works with Shopify is that placing a brush in your cart doesn't accomplish much other than convenience. Anyone else, or multiple someone elses, can still put the same brush in their cart(s). Whoever initiates check-out first gets 5 minutes of protection, at least for as long as they don't abandon the check-out process. But if you step out, whatever you were trying to buy goes back into available inventory. Unfortunately, trying to put more than one brush in a cart before proceeding to check-out usually results in a failed effort.

Sooner or later I expect things will come closer to equilibrating. We'll start working through pent-up demand and be able to build some inventory on the site, which will allow buyers to shop with more leisure.

Thanks to all for the support and patience. Apologies for any disappointment and frustration. We could dribble brushes into the store without fanfare or advance warning throughout the week, but I don't think that would turn out to be any better.

I suspect there were quite a few people in there all at once. I'm glad I got in early and got out quickly or I might have had the same experience as some others did. I'm glad you got one though.
