Progress (and a near-perfect shave)!

I came up with a couple of hypotheses while watching on  the You-Tubes last night & put them to the test this morning.

First, that I wasn't using enough water in the mix, and this was hurting my first pass.

Second, that I was applying too much lather on subsequent passes, and that all I needed was a thin, slick layer that wouldn't hide the stubble & clog the razor.

Possibly the best shave I've ever had. I've punted the Ikon Shavecraft 102 slant (which will be going up for sale as soon as I figure out what to ask for it) & gone back to my EJ Kelvin with Feather blades. This shave was as close as any I got with the Ikon & without any razorburn. And using a cream that I'd always thought of as mediocre, the Proraso Sandalwood, which I mainly kept around for the fantastic scent.

To learn things is good.

As long as you add water slowly most soaps can take a load, more water often means slicker shaves congrats on the shaves getting better.

Congrats! Lather quality makes all the difference in the world. Take a look at Nathan's method of generating lather if you have not already.

Great way to ensure that you have quality lather and a fantastic shave.

I would also add that, particularly early on, sometimes you revisit a product that you didn't like only to absolutely love it. The 102 is a nice slant that can provide great shaves. Rather than take a hit on the sale, may want to shelve it for a while and come back to it later. If you still don't connect, then drop it like a bad habit!

Oh for sure. I get having a variety of razors. They all shave very differently, but until someone comes through with some revolutionary design that is radically different that really works I am at a standstill. Well, until I get a krona to try out I guess lol.

That's when it's time to pick up a new type. If you don't feel like you can improve your technique an appreciable amount anymore, a different kind of tool, a different kind of shave, and a different set of skills to develop. Chase another dragon! lol
