Proraso preshave green is especially mentholated and a relaxing scent.

I’m pretty new to wet shaving, I’ve only been in it about eighteen months. I’ve always used a pre shave oil. My question is, do you apply before each pass or just in the initial preparation? I saw a video where they suggested three applications of it and it seems a bit much to me.

I apply before I lather for the first and second pass but not the third.  I've been thinking I should do the second and third (XTG and ATG) because the first pass (WTG) is the easiest but I haven't done that yet.  I use Grooming Dpet Moisturizing Preshave.  Its great.  No other preshave that I've tried comes close - before the GD came along I had tries a few presages but didn't use them because I found they added nothing.  I haven't tried them all so there may be some out there that I'd like but I'[m pretty happy with the GD so I'm not looking at others.

I use pre-shave oil (Stirling Soap Co. Unscented Beard & Pre-Shave Oil) and find I only need it for the initial pass.

I've been using Grooming Department pre-Shave and experimenting with it on three passes. On the last couple of passes I'm just using it mostly in my very difficult to get below jawline area to help with alot of directions, buffing and ATG.
It's always great to see what everybody else does.

I see the purpose of a Pre-shave product as two-fold. First, it reintroduces oil to the skin, it all having been removed by the soap used to wash the face. Second, it increases the suppleness of the skin, making it a smoother surface over which the razor can glide. I rotated between four products: Proraso Red and Green, Cella Pre-shave gel and Noxema Classic Clean. Of the four, I find Cella and Noxema to be the best performing for my two purposes. Cella is slick, and Noxema has good oil content. I've used Noxema for years, and no harm has come to my badger brush, which I've also used, daily, for years.

I totally agree. In the photo, everything that I have. They all work not bad. But! Pre-shave GD one level up. I use pre-shave just before the first pass.
