These days I dry my face off after the shave (after a cold splash of water) and then apply some Thayers Unscented alcohol-free witch hazel with aloe vera. I'll let that dry and then either apply The Cool Fix if I feel I've had a rougher shave then usual or I'll apply a generous amount of The Stray Whisker After Balm, which has a tiny hint of menthol to it and always hydrates the skin nicely. I may then finish off with an aftershave splash, usually Clubman Pinaud.

I have had luck with a warm water rinse, then cold water rinse, then alum block - an another cold water rinse in a minute or two, then either witch hazel (allow to dry) and a/s splash (unless the splash has WH then step condensed). After all is dried, I use an unscented face moisturizer.

Seemed like a lot of steps, but my face feels great all day from a little investment in time.

After I shave I apply a splash of witch hazel, let it dry up. Add a splash of aftershave, let it dry up. Then a moisturizer like Gillette aftershave gel, shea butter or Eucerin.

I apply an alum block and leave that on while i clean things up. After cleanup i'll splash my face with cold water to remove it, then apply Nivea sensitive skin. Once that fries apply aftershave.

Before shaving i used pre oil
The skin became "fat' but the shave is more efficient.
I used after shave cold water and splash with alcohol (it dries skin )
That gives me great shave good skin and good smell....

I just stopped using the alum block post shave after I felt like it was overly drying my skin. Haven't noticed any ill effects since.

I like to use a splash followed by a balm as well. I usually go with Stirling unscented balm.
