Plisson HMW, worth it or not? if you have one, opinions requested.

12 or 14? Floppy is not an issue. In fact, floppy is OK. Stiff not required for this particular brush at 22mm for bowl lathering.

Thanks if you own one for your opinion.

Is not my type, but I have used a 14 in the past. It is a very nice brush. I don't agree much with the price, but that's not really an issue. Quality wise, a winner IMO.

In the past I have owned a few Plisson HMW brushes, as well as a couple European Whites. The quality of the older HMW brushes like I had is unsurpassed; I haven't tried any newer ones and can't comment about them. The knots were incredibly white in appearance and, while not exactly floppy, were very soft - "cloud soft," which is why I ended up selling; I wanted just a bit more backbone. Whether or not any brush is worth its selling price is a subjective judgment.

Grim, are you familiar with the time frame that the brush you were looking at was made?

No no. He asked if I was familiar with the time frame when the brush is made.

I haven't ordered anything yet so I assume they are new.

I had a relatively new (probably made in 2014) size 12 HMW and I love the knot specs and construction but the quality of the hair was not up to par. Many of the artisan private label knots you can buy are using a superior quality badger hair that is also better sorted.

Vintage Plissons are a whole different animal.
