Let me tell you the lather just exploded on the brush.  That soap never knew what hit it because its never lathered like that in its own container.

Hey guys, thanks for taking time out of your busy schedules to do this! My question has to do with inspiration. You have a ton of scents and a lot of them are inspired by nature, some strange story or even another fragrance. And then some may have just been "throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks". What is your favorite scent based on what inspired you to create it? And what's your favorite way or place to go for inspiration in making a new scent?

Douglas and Fran, it’s great to have access to you this way.

You have brought to life one of my favorite scents in shaving, Cavendish, and seeing the size of your product catalog, there are surely several others just waiting to be found. (Some I have already discovered through your marvelous aftershave samples: Al Fin, Dapper Doc’s, High Jump 47, Gondolier, Miami Libre, Tokyo Rose… And, thanks to this thread, I’ll have to try Agharta and La Tierra Mojada.)

My first question to you:
The Petal Pusher Fancies soap Neroli has been brought up a few times here on DFS in the past few months, especially because it apparently is a beautiful scent with great projection. Douglas, you already mentioned Neroli in a list of discontinued scents. Any chance it’ll make a comeback in the future, for at least a time?

Second:
A while ago, you posted an aged nickel Prismatic on your Instagram feed. Was that just a single prototype, or will it be entering production at some point?

Thanks for spending time with us on DFS today, and Fran, glad to have you here as a new member!

Hey Jeff,
That is a tough one. As I mentioned a couple posts back, I really don't play favorites but...The AGHARTA Trilogy was a lot of fun to put together, a very memorable experience.

High Jump 47, Strange Island to AGHARTA. For that series, I bought a dry erase board and filled it with everything that went into the the story. I even printed up old newspaper clippings of related articles just to really immerse myself into it...had I started linking tack points together with red yarn and playing with my potatoes at the dinner table Fran would have left me I'm sure. (she's a very patient women)

I am really proud of the results though, the soaps almost feel alive, like they are charged with this energy thanks to the myth built up around them. The sales page for AGHARTA is a fine example of our unconventional approach to our business...it's also a fun read that seems to have gained a small cult following!

I have been building a PAA Universe for a long time, sounds kinda crazy when I stop and reread what I just typed, but it's true. So when asked where do I go for inspiration, I go there! My current focus is the galaxy around this universe, so you'll see Lavender Planet, Vetiver Planet, Red Planet and a few others down the line that are in theme with this current trajectory (pun very much intended).

Oh and thank you Mat,
Cavendish was the second scent I released. My first pipe tobacco blend was Cavendish, magical stuff, the Earl Grey of pipe tobacco! That is part of the smell track of my life for sure! Thank you for the kind words.

You got it! It’d be great to see a comeback, if even a temporary one.

By the way, I believe this is the first comment where it came up, and it appears a few more times later in that thread:
