Those of you who sell items frequently,

Could you all give me some tips on making shipping easier? I'd very much like to sell a few Elite Razor Brushes, a Thater, Shavemac, Delta Echo Slim, Colonial General and a Razorock Hawk. However, in the past I just hate going to the post office and dealing with how much shipping was, flat rate/etc. Is there an easier way that you all handle being sellers? I'm sure I'm just a buffoon but it always seemed like a giant pain in the butt to ship something and its why I've hoarded items that I no longer use. I pack items really really well when I get around to shipping, but I just can't make myself get rid of these things.

If any of you get time, I'd appreciate any help you could provide. Maybe UPS/FedEX is easier than the post office or cheaper and I just haven't looked into it? Let me know.

If this should be in the BST forum let me know.

I like to use myusps dot com. I can pay via PayPal and create shipping labels. Recently I have had success using boxes other than flat rate allows lower shipping costs. I keep all boxes mailed to me (supposedly for recycling!) and can often find a box that works for USPS. And I can do it all from my laptop, including free pickups during my normal mail delivery.

Pretty much this. Ship via first class parcel vs. flat rate priority.

I always use first class whenever possible as well. As long as the package is under 13 oz., it's the least expensive option there is. Not as fast, but I find recipients only have to wait 1-2 days longer than priority mail.

I'll echo the OP. Going to the PO is a royal pain.

I've tried the USPS site a few times and ALL I ever seem to find is Flat Rate. Where is the First Class option? And, the postal worker will really pick it up from my mailbox?

Thanks

I keep all the boxes the stuff I buy was sent to me in. Then I pack and label my own stuff when I ship it out. Then it's just a quick stop by the post office.

There is no 1st class option available through USPS.com. They want you to use PM since it's more revenue for them. That's why they force all of us to pay for the completely useless 1st class tracking. If something gets lost or stuck in the system just call them about it. The response is "so what?".

You'd either need a 3rd party mailing service (monthly fee) or go to USPS. Sorry. I wish it was available for my use also. I only go into town 2x a week so all of the 1st class ships then. Folks know and accept this or they pay for PM shipping which I can do from home, sometimes the same business day.

+1 on saving boxes - always save the brush/razor box and also various sizes of the cardboard shipping boxes
Going to the Post Office insures the correct postage.

A well used box may help with customs on Intl shipments. I manually fill out the customs form - I have never used the on-line form.

Some artisans use the bubble wrap envelopes. Sometimes the Priority Mail boxes is the cheapest (cross country and heavy)

Thanks for all of the info gentlemen. I just went and picked up a handful of priority boxes. I suppose from what I gather on the site, using my usps account I can click and ship and then set up pick-up here at the house. Worst case scenario, if I print out labels for all of these boxes is there an easy drop off at the post office or do I have to stand in line? I guess I can always go up there and find out if I have luck with my current sale.

Thanks again guys.

EDIT: also, reuse shipping boxes. (helping environment at 0 cost isn't a bad thing). I do fun stuff while reusing: I sent a 5 dollar soap in a Shavemac box.
