Take a look at Timeless or ATT packaging. Much more presentable at a much lower cost. So it wouldn't factor that much into the price when you're dropping $400. But it would do a lot to give you that upscale feel to go along with one if the priciest razors you can buy. Again, I realize a lot of people don't really care about such things, but some do.

I completely understand, and I can't deny how fun it was as a kid (and still is today) to unwrap a Case knife with the matching box and papers etc. or even the unpacking of the spartan yet still upscale Apple devices. The Tradere clamshell was kinda cool because I could repurpose it, but the sticker on top was kinda "meh." On the other hand, the Feather razors with the wooden box, foam insert, and sliding lid are a real treat to open, but I gotta wonder if that added $10 or more to the overall price? With matters of luxury items the only guarantee is you're lucky if you reach a 50% consensus on such options.

Wow, I'd expect a lot nicer packaging/presentation for a $400 razor. Hope it shaves nice for you though.

Reminds of difference between German and Japanese cultures which can be explained thusly:

Germans respect the underlying gift more than the packaging and frankly could care less if a gold brick is handed them whereas Japanese would seemingly prefer feces beautifully wrapped in presentation over the gold brick unadorned. Exaggeration to illustrate a point but not far off

Just received mine today. I agree the box is not important but for $400 is it should come in a nicer package without costing a fortune.. the razor itself is beautiful what a difference between the ti 1 and the ti 2. You would think it was two different materials but they both feel great in the hand. With the polished finish the ti2 looks more like the stainless steel 17-4. Will shave with it in a few days. Paradigm are probably my favorite razors just ahead of the timeless, the tatara, and charcoal Goods.

To put it bluntly: the packaging is pretty crappy. Sorry. Constrained budget and all that.

There is some good news. There will be another release of 100 Ti II mid March. Bullgoose is getting 50, and I ordered 50 for direct sale! Also, the SE is on track. We are adding additional machine capacity. This will alleviate the supply bottleneck to a considerable extent.

Also, the mid March release will be in a better box with cut foam and a logo laser engraved. The money pinch is easing up a bit as well. ;-)

Dan, thank you for a well-balanced, thoughtful review. A stand is in the works.

It is true that some people prefer a "grippier" design, but I tend to prefer these more elegant patterns. Getting them deeper involves machining considerations; it's just not practical. Honestly, I don't have an issue with slippiness and neither do many others. Wet shaving is nothing if not very personal, so YMMV. I shave frequently with a straight, and so I have gotten in the habit of making sure my hands are clean and dry. You do NOT want to drop that sucker.

Again, my gratitude to Dan for a through and honest review. No razor manufacturer could ask for more.

Thanks for the update! This kind of transparency will keep the secondary market in check. Hopefully I’ll be getting mine in the next couple of days. When you say the SE is on track do you have an estimated release month so I can budget accordingly?
