I mean that’s a a huge risk, just google what happened to Stirling and bull goose. Maybe this cheaper razor will make him money to open or rent a shop and continue his premium made in USA razors. People just too tough on artisans and I recently saw with Above the Tie when they sourced two razors from China even though they offered them at a cheaper price. Most successful razor brands manufacture their own razors and maybe this razor will allow Paradigm to do just that.

I don’t know, Blackland I would say is one is the most successful and i would guess Shane doesn’t own a machine shop or have intentions of getting to it.

I would bet Tatara (great engineering) doesn’t own a machine shop.

Depends, you can come at this from 3 perspectives.

1.) a skilled machinist (likely hands on in-house)
2.) an engineer (likely outsourced)
3.) commercially (outsource all of it)

Someone companies such as Yates, Timeless and Henson, luckily have 1 and 2 in-house.

If you have a skilled mechanical engineer you can outsource the machine shop work easier. However, auditing and qualifying a machine shop, whole different level.

Back to my point, it would have been very hard to do in China during Covid unless you had extremely good relationships and fabrication history there.

That is my personal opinion.

Tatara guys are in fact degreed engineers doing the vast vast majority of the machining, finishing and even packaging manufacturing (save paper and printing) in house.

Which is a crazy expense but passion for products that I truly admire.  I know Jake Yates does the same thing as a degreed engineer.  Henson too.  Have to respect when it’s done right.

Tatara best engineered razors ever encountered by far. Amazingly, considering they an engineering shop, understand branding better than any other shave industry artisan encountered so far: so consistent and the look and feel evokes exactly the aura desired. Hell, one can tell their products without even being marketed as Tatara. More greatness forthcoming.

You need a Blackbird and a Timeless in there.   And an H&S.  Karve?  Your mission is not completed.

Some really nice razors!
Those old things!?

Here is some information I got for New Paradigm Razor Salient and it’s production in China..

I personally don’t find nothing wrong being “Made in China” as they do have amazing quality control but that’s Subjective of course!!

To me seems like a nice razor and sounds like a nice shaver to own Happy2

Weren't all the older designs machined by someone else? That was my impression. Maybe Andy did some polishing not sure.

That is my understanding. Andy helped me correct a factory defective 17-4 I bought 2nd hand. I sent it to his machinist for remediation. It wasn't Andy.

American makers of niche tools should make their stuff in America. Its one thing that really irks me about razors and knives. Mass producing something like the Gillette Gibbs clone is one thing...creating/building a brand and then buying stuff from China gets you put on my no buy list.

I've had a 17-4 and a T1. They are decent razors. Worth the secondary price to some, just above average to others. It's probably my technique tho.

It's all very subjective. Try them all. Find what suits you and enjoy.

If anyone is following Paradigm on IG, Andrew did a post today addressing the China outsourcing thing. He is directing folks to his website for a much better explanation on how he is doing this.
