Paradigm 2020 Diamondback

Maybe it’s just me but on the Diamondback vs RS10 efficiency comparison I find the DB dead even with the WR2Ti 1.35 SB and  IMHO I find the RS 10  ever so slightly more efficient than a Paradigm 17 4  with the so called aggressive plate on it but not at the DB or 1.35 WR2 Level but more so in between and for me it’s noticeable. Of course it could be blades etc but I’m running Feathers on all the above mentioned razors so again it might be just me.

Have you used DB 2020 and RS10A side by side?

Haven’t done a side by side with the RS-0 vs Diamondback so just going by memory and my comparisons to WR2 Ti 1.35 where I have done a side by side.  Now I guess I’ll have to pull them both out and actually do a Shave Off. One thing I know for sure that will be really close is their smoothness.

In regard to efficiency of pending release. There have been a lot of questions asked, and I've been short on answers. I haven't shaved with the any of the Wolfman large gap razors, so I can't compare. I can tell you that the razor is intended to shave at least as efficiently as the Paradigm Ti 1, which was quite efficient. That razor also had a huge amount of blade feel; next release will have less.

I'm going to poke the hornet's nest a bit here. This is also tangential to the topic at hand, but hey, we're discussing efficiency.  It seems to me that skin will flow into a very large gap, right into the path of the blade. At best, this makes for a less comfortable shave; at worst, it can lead to nicks. If you think about it, ideally the face would see nothing but span, and the skin would lie completely flat. You can achieve somewhat of this effect with a good pre-stretch, but stainless and titanium are both hydrophilic — they attract water (up to a point), and they glide. And of course, there's a nice layer of soap in there, too. Conventional blade guards can achieve only so much by way of pre-stretch. 

How much efficiency can you squeeze from a DE razor and still keep things comfy? I'm going to try to find that out. Of course, being that I haven't used a razor with a 1.45 or 1.55 gap, maybe I'm full of crap. Experience and results always trump theory and philosophy in this game.

That hasn't been my experience at all with a 1.55 WR2. I can shave with that thing everyday without a hint of irritation nor weepers. I would say go with your instincts in designing the Javelin. A significant jump in efficiency from the Diamondback would be nice!

You're most likely correct. If the Javelin ends up being on the extreme end of efficiency, maybe his next razor could be geared towards the milder side?

What I'll do is release a milder baseplate.

I like the base plate idea, then people can fine-tune it so to speak
