Paradigm 17-4 SS Razor

After reading this entire posting from beginning to end (Jan 27th),  I want a Paradigm SS 17-4.  When they become available, will they be sold through Bullgoose or direct from Paradigm?  Also, do you expect to have them available in 2018, or should I add this to my 2019 wish list ( my personal expectation management)?  Thank you to everyone for the reviews and education about this amazing product.

I can't promise that material will ever be used again. But the head design will be around for some time to come. Paradigm will have some in titanium around mid March, and so will Bullgoose.

Grateful to have one myself.

But, now that we have a proven design, might I suggest focusing on increasing volume of production...rather than on a particular material beyond the usual 300-series stainless?

Since it's impossible to avoid ordinary wear over time, and since a minor scratch, here and there, likely won't impact the shave from a razor, perhaps the emphasis should shift.

Plenty of wet shavers laud the shaves they can STILL get from the vintage TTO's. None of them are new, and I'll wager, plenty are a bit worn looking from age and use. Yet, they still love them.

And so many are able to still love them precisely because so many were made.

I understand the craftsman's desire to achieve something special.

But, sufficient availability is important too.

I really wanted the 17-4 steel and was one of the main reason was due to having a polished finish that wouldn't scratch easily. The price was also reasonable for having this type of material.
If 17-4 steel will not be used anymore, any chance of at least 316L with some kind of coating to prevent scratches at the same price range of the 17-4?

I regret not being able to get the 17-4 at the price available at the time, I was actually saving up for it and thought it would be available for a while or will be available again at a later time if it sold out at the same price range .

This is one of my biggest regrets when it comes to wet shaving purposes, for those of you that were able to get one you guys are very fortunate.

I feel very fortunate to be able to have the 17-4. The quality and craftsmanship are superb. I am blown away by the smoothness and efficiency. I paired my 17-4 with a Feather blade and it's heavenly for my face. I never had a great experience with feather blades in any other DE razor. SE razors are another story.

I honestly feel I could sell all my other razors and shave with this razor for the rest of my days. Just my honest opinion.

I must be an outlier amongst the group, here, as I am not getting on with my 17-4 SS as well as all of you are.
It is a beautiful razor, but for whatever reason, I am not enjoying the shaves as much as I do with my other razors.
Oh, well. Such is life. However, I am looking forward to trying Andy's new SE razor.

I’m not getting on very well with my 17-4 either Celestino. The first shave I had with it was fantastic, but since then I haven’t been able to duplicate it. I haven’t changed any of the different elements of the Shave such as Soap/Blade etc., so I’m sure it’s user error. Some of my other Razors seem to be much more intuitive for me. I may have to use just this Razor for a few weeks to see if I can get better results.

I think that the example of Rockwell making two cheaper setups of their flagship model speaks volumes for what this minuscule market will bear. I think there is a mad rush to buy a few hundred boutique razors at most and then the bottom falls out and becomes a trickle which in turn may be why Wolfman makes so few. As well, making something so exclusive seems to fuel the desires even more of those who covet these type things. However, I would not bank on making lots of money by making anything for such a small niche market. It just isn't there unless you're a huge vendor selling everyone else's goods, i.e., "mining" the miners.

Hunter, the thing for me is that I have never gotten a really great shave with the razor from the very first shave and it has remained consistent since then, unfortunately. I have tried various angles and such, but it just isn't working as well as my other razors.
As I had mentioned, previously, it isn't much of a concern for me as I enjoy my other razors, quite a bit.
Not every razor works for everyone and I am glad to hear that most others are, indeed, enjoying theirs.

You know I've got a few high-end razors, including the 17-4, and I've had good to excellent experiences with all of them. However it does amaze me that my 2 surgical prep razors [Olaf Rasmussen DE and Weck SE], that are ugly as sin (but stainless!), give me more consistently excellent shaves than all my other razors. I guess sometimes function is more important than form...

I’ve used the 17-4 for three weeks in a row now and the shaves are great. Before that I struggled for a few shaves because I slipped back into my old habit of changing razors daily. Switching between razors all the time never helped my shaves. 6C, Timeless .68 & Paradigm all give similar (wonderful) shaves. Once I get to know a razors angles it’s the blade that cuts.

A real beauty and work of art and taking nothing away from the 17-4 I can also get the same result with a Rockwell 6C.
