A friend loaned me his Starling recently. I started with the gold 'beta' plate by accident (!) and after 4 shaves switched to the blue plate. I find the razor handles very well, but I find the fit is poor with the blue plate and requires attention to set right. I have had excellent shaves using both plates, but the corners of the gem blades are poorly guarded with the gold plate and it is very easy to poke oneself with these corners, which makes it difficult to handle in curved areas (e.g. under the ear by the jaw). Douglas tells me they are reimagining the Starling now based on user feedback, and that there will be no A/blue or B/gold plates in future, so in a sense anyone who bought previously was a guinea pig. I suspect either the first version will drop in street value as a result, or the new improved version will be more expensive retail.

I think CaD314 is going to send me one of the version 2 starling razors so we can pass it around on the forum once he gets another shipment in!

Judging from the pictures of the new V2, it doesn’t look like the corner guards of the V2 have changed so I suspect more dangerous poking.

I have the same issue and I really find it strange why it wasn’t designed to have proper protecting corner guards.

Look at this GEM razor with proper corner protection

Thank you for your post, i was wondering exactly the same, i had their first version too and the lack of blade stops was a real problem, i even took the time and wrote them that, why they didn't change that is beyond me.

The V2 model has guards on the corners. It’s too small to tell from the photo online, but Douglas did improved it in V2

Thanks so much for doing this CaD314!

andrewjs18, is there a separate thread for the sign-up? If so, I apologize for asking but I did a quick search and didn't find anything.
