by reading reviews on people who got the razor looks like Douglas might have an issue with the razor design + the blade might chatter

For those that don’t know, here are a few pics of the situation I have encountered with the Starling razor. I was really looking forward to writing up a report on this razor, but considering the situation and set up of the razor, I don’t really see that happening, at least speaking highly of it. And I’m not going to bash or tear  someone or a business to shreds. But I will say that this is my experience with it and what it looks like and so far there hasn’t been a decent report or review on this razor so far on any other thread, post or forum. I will let the pics do the talking. I will be getting in touch with PAA and voice my concerns and said issues with this particular product.

I will let the rest of you Gents be the judge on this subject. I see it as a failed attempt in making a workable product. Hopefully it can be worked upon and corrected by PAA in the future. It’s not pretty.......











Some serious quality control issues here Gents, at least to my eyes. Misalignment is quite severe and the tolerances are pretty much FUBAR.

I echo everything above. Definitely the chatter is what I meant as rough. Cutting through L&L soap with a new Gem blade should be butter. I got skips and pain.

Maybe he can add a new head and make this a box cutter?

Like I said before in the previous post, just an ill fated attempt at producing a razor. Was it hastily done? I don’t know. It has been in the works for almost a year. And from what I have searched over the net there were protypes and testing done. So what gives? I have no idea. The quality and fitment on the Beta plate is just a bit better which is the Gold plate, but not by much. Let’s see where this goes...

No. It stays put. But the blade is barely supported by neither the top cap or base plate, especially on the “A” plate. The cut out on the top cap where the spine resides in is not precise. The whole assembly actually is not precisely made as the razor assembled without a blade is still off ever so slightly. It’s just not precisely made, period.

Gentlemen my experience with this razor is quite different then what I've been reading.

I received the Starling Gem the other day and now have 2 shaves from it. I like to feel the blade and hearing the feedback. For me the Blue plate was to mild so I switched to the Gold plate. I liked the Gold plate tho for me I would't say it was terribly aggressive when comparing it to my British Streamline which has a lot of blade feel and where the mowing down of my beard (thick) sounds like a tank coming down the street. The Gold plate gave me a smooth blade feel and nice feedback to where as my stubble was being leveled down the feedback became lower and smoother.

For me I liked this razor better then the 2 newer Gems that have come out on the market, they were to mild for me, I wasn't getting the gem blade experience. Now what I did not like about the razor, The razor was to light so I switched out the handle to a stork 90 x 13 Ti aristocrat (45g) which gave me a little more heft to control the large but light head. The second thing is the head is large, I understand why it is so in its design, but I would have liked it to be a little smaller in its depth. As far as setting in the blade you have to pay attention to what your doing the blade holding pins are not precise and could be a drop longer, also when the blade is set in properly there is no worry about the blade corners, there are small corner guards.

Not sticking up for this razor, because I don't own one, but were all of you looking for a GEM razor that had the fit/tolerances of ATT/Timeless/Wolfman? I think for $40 you are getting what you paid for.
