Something about the cap doesn't appeal to me.

Is there a lot of chatter?

I have found that with single edge razors I have a great shave with more aggressive razors. Not double edge razors unless they can hold the blade really tight like in a slant.

I've chalked up my preferences with different kinds of razors and blades to the SE blades being so much more rigid compared to DE blades.

I can't post photos here but I do have them, as a comparison.

The PAA DOC SS is very aggressive; on the 1-10 scale, I have the R41 '13 as an 8, the R41 '11 as a 9 along with the ShaveCraft Tech, and a Devette (virtually any version I've created) and the DOC SS as a 10. Difference being that while the DOC SS is aggressive, it's not terribly efficient; I can get a closer shave in two passes with a much less aggressive razor, such as the RR Hawk, the SC Tech, or a number of others.

I have one although very aggressive and up there with a R41 2011/13' and iKon Tech this razor is still very smooth and efficient. Absolutely no flaws. But the all time champ is my Charcoal Goods all brass level 3 razor. Total smoothness yet aggressive.

I know I'm reviving the dead, but after several months of neglect, I've returned to the PAA DOC Evolution in stainless this week, and couldn't be more pleased. I absolutely agree with slantman, in that the razor is extremely smooth and efficient, with a bit less feel of "aggressiveness" than some of its brethren. The Charcoal Goods Level 3 is still top of my heap, but this one is mighty close. My other "aggressive" DEs, e.g., Ikon Tech, Blackbird open comb, etc., are generally "tuggier" than the PAA DOC Evolution (although I don't find my R41 2011 tuggy). This is a tremendous shaving tool.

Funny that you revived this thread Scott, as I was trying a couple new soaps for the past week and a half and decided to try out an offering that was tallow based. Out came the EVO SS to put the soap to the test. It passed with flying colors. As you know, the EVO will put any soap or cream to the highest test in terms of cushion, glide and slickness. But the EVO is just an excellent de razor. Holds the blade as rigid or more so than many other razors. Always gives me an efficient 2 pass shave with the slightest touch up. Totally misunderstood razor imo. But so wonderfully balanced. Best OC de in my arsenal, Period.

For what's it's worth if you had a blackland Blackbird open comb, you could probably pass on the PAA evolution SS. I had both at the same time and the face feel and efficiency was so close I would give it a draw. At the end of the day I sold both, I now know that OCs on the sharper side are not for me. The Timeless and Charcoal OCs hit the spot.

Will the evolution be produced again?

I agree, but I would say I could have done one pass and some touch ups. I watched some videos on it and decided to ride the cap like a few said. This is one efficient razor. I do find it aggressive though and felt like I had to be pretty careful. This was my first shave with it. Not sure how I feel about it yet, but I wouldn't use it everyday. I waited for a week to see how it would do with that much growth. Absolutely no problem. Not a weeper/nick/cut and the aftershave didn't burn at all just a small tingle.

I'm posting this about 24 hours later because this is about the time I shaved last night. I can feel some slight stubble on my face, but it isn't noticeable by any means. I would say I have average facial hair growth. Now I'm wondering if I took a layer of skin off last night also lol.

I think you're just enjoying the wonders of the PAA DOC Evolution in stainless. I have gotten into the lazy habit of leaving this razor in my travel kit. I travel enough to feel like it gets enough use, but it tends to be concentrated use. At home, I rarely use the same razor two days in a row. On the road, I use the DOC Evolution every day, regardless of the length of the trip. In April, I used the razor every day for 14 days in a row in Hawaii.

My experience is that regardless of the "aggressiveness" of the razor, the more one uses it on a daily basis, the friendlier it becomes. That may be just me, but it's me.

P.S. The Charcoal Goods Level 3 OC is my favorite razor, but every time I travel, I nudge closer to the PAA as my favorite...

I'm only one shave in so I may change my mind, but I'm pretty impressed with its efficiency at this point.
