I received a PAA Gondolier 3.0 8oz tin and aftershave in a trade recently. Although the aftershave is absolutely magnificent in both face feel and scent, the soap is less than desirable. The soap smells like vegetable oil, can barely detect any of the scents described on the website and definitely nothing like the awesome scent of the aftershave splash. It it defenitely doesnt lather anything like 1.0 or 2.0. Can anyone share there experiences with PAA 3.0 soap?

To be honest I have only recently picked up some of the PAA soaps and not sure how to delineate the version. They are mostly current releases, purchased within the past month or so and will assume they are 3.0. Can double check later if there is any labeling...

Having said that, the tubs I have all feature good scent strength, no scent of vegetable oil or other but I have never tried Gondolier. I consider them to be welcome additions to my soap "library".

By way of reference, have and enjoy:
CK Holliday
CK Navygoat
PAA 1K
PAA Enigma
PAA Grapefruit, Coconut, Vanilla
PAA Unofficial Big Shave West
PAA 9

Double checked last night Bleacherbum76 and didn't see anything on the labeling to indicate version/formula level.

Whichever I have, as mentioned, perform well and have solid scent strength.

I have only 1 PAA soap, Good Vibrations, which is a new release this spring, so I presume it is 3.0.

Like Kevin, i get zero oil scent, only good, solid summertume barbershop. One of my favorite scents.

Performance is outstanding for me as well. Very easy to load and lather, takes water well, and provides excellent slickness.

In my opinion, PAA has top tier performance. The disclaimer is that I have never used prior iterations of their soaps under any brand name...

I have never seen a 8oz soap from PAA that is 8oz. Are you sure you don't have the older formula which was offered in 8oz? They only sell 4oz soaps and they all come in the new clear containers. Maybe Douglas will chime in here but that's how I understand it. Go to their website and you will see this is the case. I have seen other merchants that are still selling the older version but also the new versions. I would not order from them because how would you know if you are going to get 3.0 or not. Also, if your soap is in a metal tin it is not 3.0.

I actually like the 3.0 version the most.

I have tried their original version when they were known as How to grow a mustache and another version (2.0?) and they were only so so for me. A bit overrated IMO.

But their 3.0 version is super slick and produces a great lather.

I have several PAA soaps and aftershaves the most recent probably being a year or so old and the oldest would be stretching back to the HTGAM days. I've found them to be great performers. I love the old and new bay rum and the bay rum aftershaves, both alc and de-alc with menthol are very bracing. If you haven't tried The Beach you should, its a great scent. Takes me back to my honeymoon in Cabo 25 years ago. PAA/HTGAM products make me happy and I like to be happySmile
