Has anyone here used the Oumo G5 synthetic knots yet? I also think this is the same knot sold by Maggards and same as the G5 premium knot sold by APShaveCo. Just wondering how it stacks against the competition, particularly against the Muhle STF.

I believe I have that one. They came out with 2. A and B. Mine is like an shd version of the evo.

I have it in a 28mm knot. The hair is borderline too short for it and would likely perform better in a 25mm knot or so. The short hair results in a low loft and high glue bump.

That said it’s a very nice knot. Very soft. Softer than the evo with still some good backbone. As far as comparing it to the Muhle, I can’t offer any input as I haven’t tried one.

Good report.  I’m looking at a handful of them right now sitting on my desk and already wrote my note to Oumo.  Loft is too short.  The fibers are great in the knot I’ve been testing.  Great face feel but I have to glue it in very shallow or it feels like a lump with little splay.  I’ll mess around with the socket next to see if I can get it to “soften” a bit but for right now I’m not really a fan.

I recently received the G5A from AP Shave Co. I find it very dense with plenty of backbone, yet soft. I did set it higher higher to increase the loft. As stated, it seemed too short.

Is it ok at the higher loft though? No major issues?

No issues at all. In fact, I was surprised at how much I liked it! I like super soft, like the SynBad, and love lots of splay. The density of this knot had me worried, as did its height. Setting it higher helped, and it is giving me a soft, scrubby feeling.

You can't see it, but I put a rubber gasket in it to boost it up.

I had ap set it in one of their rubberset handles and wish I had done it myself. Oh well. Still a nice knot imo.

So what loft did you settle on?
