They still working on the page.  But information I got from OneBlade states this is a fact.  Limited Edition to that amount and at that price.

You can get a regular stainless and Delta Echo could probably do that finish.

Thanks for sharing, Hector.

I'm one of the biggest OneBlade fanboys you are likely to find. It has literally changed my shaving life, giving me the closest, smoothest, most consistent shaves I've ever had... without blood or irritation. Their customer service is also excellent. Quick responses, and they take care of any issue 100%, without question. So, I'm more than happy to sing the praises of OneBlade, and debate its detractors who are less experienced with it.

However, you will find little defense from me concerning the LE BlackBlade.

Look, from what I understand, there is absolutely no difference in the design in comparing the original OneBlade to the LE BlackBlade. The ONLY difference is that the original is PVD coated with the stainless steel color, and the other is PVD coated with the black color. Both are 316L SS, the design is the same, both are PVD coated... only the PVD coloring is different. And for this black coloring difference, you pay an extra $2,200. (Plus, it is LE, meaning you know there are very few of these out, so this is a status symbol more than anything.)

Now, even if both razors were priced the same, I would choose the original SS color for 2 reasons:

1. It is more of a classic color, matching the color of the metal.

2. If the black PVD coating were ever to chip, or wear off, you would have a splotchy, discolored razor. This issue is not a problem in the original version.

Wrapping up, for me, BlackBlade is a waste of money, that is more of a status symbol, and provides no functional increase in benefit to the original. (And may in fact, provide a functional decrease, should the black PVD coating ever wear away.)

All that being said, I do not expect the BlackBlade to sell to people like us. This is a razor that will be marketed to very rich elites. And personally, I hope they sell. Why? Because, I think OneBlade is the best razor on the market, and I want them to succeed. And success with a razor as advanced as the OneBlade, will only mean better technological advances in the future for wet shaving. In other words, OneBlade's market success will mean more and better future products brought to market. And this is good for all wet shavers, whether they are fans of the OneBlade, or not.

I agree Len. I love my OneBlade, so this is not meant to be bashful at all. I just thought it was a good topic of conversation.

I used to make golf putters and did a few with PVD coating over SS. I think it is a great application for it, but I don't think it is practical on a razor for the same reason you indicated. Not as much as fading away, but you get a chip on it and welcome rust. That's just a fact of PVD. It looks awesome when new, but after taking a good beating, is just not as nice, plus I think it will drag on the skin.

I also agree with you, this is not marketed for, and I can only speak for myself, me. But I am sure it will find a market.

Well PVD coatings are no different than Oxide coatings.  They last, but you have to take care of them.  Like I said, for the applications that I have used PVD coating, golf putters and irons, it works great, but I am not sure how they would work in razors.  I have never used a PVD coated razor, so I cant really give you a review.  That I think it could work? Sure.  PVD is definitively more forgiving, specially when used on Stainless. Just don't get a chip on it, the rust will go right through it.

I am sure some guys have used them and I will love to read their opinions.

My bad, now I know what are you talking about.  I don't really know what they meant as PVD coating on the regular SS OneBlade.  I don't see anything even close to a PVD coating on the razor.

Furthermore, if they are using German Stainless Steel, which I have also used in making golf putters, there is no need for any coating. Keep it dry after each use and it should be fine, and even then, you don't have to baby the thing.

Ok, so kind of like ceramic knives. Great at what they do but possibly brittle.

dang, I was hoping rather than fiddling around with different colors, they'd make slight alterations to the head so it would accept a standard GEM razor blade. I bet they'd make a lot more money that way in the long run...
