On what day does the week start?

It's really an unimportant question, but it sort of interests me anyway.  I have noticed that the European shaving fora end their SOTD threads on a Friday, perhaps implying that for them the week starts on Saturday.  The U.S. fora, on the other hand, end their threads on Saturday - meaning I guess that our week starts on Sunday.

Back when I was in school, my week ended with Saturday night festivities of one kind or another, and the new week started on Sunday, when I had to start slaving away at my homework.  Later on when I was working, my week generally ended Sunday night, with the new one defined by my job schedule that started on Mondays.  Now that I'm retired, every day is the same (except for some form provided by my wife's variable part-time work), with no start or stop to the week at all.

So when does your week start?

John, like you, I am retired so each day is its own entity with no start or stop to the week. However, I still think in terms of a traditional week as I learned it growing up. That is, Sunday is the first day of the week and Saturday is the last.

Sunday here in the USA and proven by our calendars which all start the week on Sunday.

I'm betting the European forums do that for a different reason. I think we all use the Gregorian calendar, but I'm no expert.

I echo what Freddy wrote too! Last week with the holiday, the weekend sorta marks my week along with my chosen sport when a match is scheduled, I was totally screwed up on the days. I kept thinking Friday was Thursday. I finally got grounded because "our" cooking shows were on PBS.

Monday, in my mind is the start of the week.  Calendar aside, my work week starts Monday.  Sunday I view as the culmination of “6 days shalt though labor and do all thy work” but the 7th is the Sabbath.  Obviously different cultures and different religions hold different ideas and customs but I view Sunday as the seventh day and Monday as the first.  (So I guess I’m the correct one?)

The typical weekend is Friday after work through Sunday, right? So if the last day of the weekend is Sunday then...

After the weekend ends, work or school (or both) start again on Monday...a new start for the work and/or school week.

Andrew there was a time when I worked "southern swing". Don't ask me to explain it. I didn't understand it at the time and I certainly don't now decades later. When I was on that I didn't know what MONTH it was, the heck with knowing what day of the week. We went on strike to get rid of it. Strangely enough we knew better than the company that fought us on it. But personally I wasn't returning if it went away. Productivity went up when it went away.

My guess is some shavers skip Sunday and/or Saturday and SOTD ends on the last shaving date.

I consider the weekend part of the prior week. That means including Sunday. So for me, the week starts on Monday.

I work second shift and I'm off on Tuesdays & Wednesdays each week, unless I'm covering shifts for my co-workers when they're on vacation..
