The Open Combe Vs. The Safety Bar on daily shave, is there any difference? Does the OC just function as a Safty bar? Is it at the end just a design theme?
I shave daily (Newbie, 6 months to DE), I alternate between OC and SB, can’t really tell the difference. Happy to get your thoughts

Theres no difference - the OC doesn't leave any stubble behind.  The blade has full contact.  The OC won't scrape as much lather away prior to blade engagement so there is the potential for a slightly more lubricated shave.  If anything OC can be more "aggressive"  that a SB but that isn't always the case.

I haven’t found porpoise in any of my razors. But then again, I don’t live that close to the water so that might be why…  Tongue

Open comb dolphinitely leaves more lather but the added blade feel cod be a turtle disappointment. You should mullet over.

Open comb razors can vary in aggressiveness just as solid bar razors do. For a given level of aggressiveness, OC razors might be slightly more efficient.

Before COVID, I used to shave every day. I am retired now and do not go out as often as I once did. So now I shave every 2-3 days. I like starting out my shave with a moderately aggressive open comb razor with a reasonably sharp blade to knock down my overall beard growth on the WTG pass. Then I switch to safety bar razors for my subsequent XTG, ATG, and final clean-up passes. I often use a different razor for each pass with each razor less aggressive than the previous one. That allows me to get a near BBS shave with no irritation in spite of my sensitive skin. If I were to try to use the open comb razor I normally use for my WTG pass for subsequent passes, I would experience some irritation during the shave. If I were to use the very mild SB razor I use for my clean-up pass for the entire shave, I would not get quite as close. Thus, I try to use my razors in an optimal manner.

There are a lot of different designs for open comb razors. Some like the Merkur 25C have very fine teeth, too fine for my liking. Some like the Karve open comb base plate have rather fat teeth, too fat for my liking. The Muhle R41 has very open teeth that make it quite aggressive, too much so for my sensitive skin. My favorite is the Parker 24C. For my beard and skin, it works well as long as I shave off the cap (shallow blade angle). If I shave with a steep blade angle, it can cause skin irritation.

I get slightly more blade "feel" with my OC razors.

I use a Wolfman WR1 OC 0.61 and a Wolfman WR1 0.67 SB (I have the 2 plates, use the same top and handle), I find they are very similar, the 0.67 SB is a smidge mor efficient, I do not feel any difference between SB and OC, I shave daily .

Yep, depends on the razor and your face. But appears you don't feel a difference between OC and SB. Is that with different razors or a razor with multi plates (like karve, blankland...etc)? Also I just also focus( from my late great dad) on the using the right tool for the job. Once you know you face, your technique improves, your den increases....in all will come together. Some may come, some may go...just give them enough time to hon them in. Have fun, Shave like you never Shaved before...Smiles BFX...
Note: I started wet shaving ( taught by my dad) at 18 ( now way way older ) with a straight .. So I have had a lot of fun below the eyes......

Thank you for the great comments, I use a Wolfman WR1 OC 0.61 and SB 0.67. I shave every day and still improve my technique. My Den is modest (Merkure Future, Rex Ambassador XL and the wolfies), my accumulated experience by now is that the Wolfies are amazing, smooth and efficient and I cannot tell the difference between the OC and the SB with these given razors.
