I’ve tried the small orthodontic bands on a couple of razors other than the Blackbird, and I can say that they do not work. They, too, are too small, and when the handle is tightened, they get pushed into the opening in the bottom plate. Opening the razor head is no fun after that.

Nylon #10s have always worked for me. I've always used them when combining different handles and heads. They work great.

I guess there is a learning curve involved here, at least with my aging little grey cells. I forgot about the washer this morning and lost it down the sink drain when I took my razor apart to rinse it. I have some spares, but I need to focus a little better.

I'm actually surprised I've never lost one, so far. churchilllafemme, if you like them and continue to use them, I'm sure you'll soon begin to remember them as part of your regular setup.

OK, call me picky, but I decided to pick up some rubber washers, which I like better than the nylon ones for some reason.   And just a word to the wise, small black washers are a lot easier to see on a light-colored bathroom counter than white ones...

I rinse the razor while assembled as water seeps into all corners & crevices. I then disassemble on a paper napkin and pat dry leaving everything laid out until I return from work in the evening when all is bone dry & then I reassemble. No losing parts down the sink or dropping parts in the sink either with my method. Every so often I place the parts in a cup with rubbing alcohol to clean off soap scum. Before shaving is when I lay out said napkin on the kitchen counter whereas I fit the blade before sauntering into the bathroom.

As I have grown older I have become a creature of habit and I try to be extremely methodical.
