North Cascades Smoke

We went on a short driving vacation to Washington State's North Cascades mountains last week. We stayed in the town of Leavenworth, transformed by business people in the 1960s into a Bavarian-themed village to attract tourists. The tree leaves were changing color nicely (sorry about the image quality through a dirty windshield), but there were still some fields of late wildflowers too.


A day trip from there took us over to Wenatchee, where we saw more colors and had a great lunch of macaroni and cheese with lobster and Andouille sausage and a Southwestern salad with smoked chicken.


Throughout the trip the air was very smoky from wildfires, and we had to wear our surgical masks when walking outside.
