Hi all,

We had to make some minor permission changes to some of the user groups recently after a few members were getting unsolicited and highly explicit and downright disgusting private messages from new users. My guess is that these new users were either recently banned from the site, trying to troll our users or wanted to try to knock the forum down a few pegs. We're not going to tolerate any of it!

The changes are really only aimed at newly registered users. When you register on the site, you're put into a default user group that has a few restrictions put in place. The 2 more prominent restrictions are that you cannot use the private message system and you're not able to add a signature to your profile. Once you hit 15 posts, you'll automatically get moved to a less restrictive user group where you're able to send/receive private messages as well as add a signature to your profile.

We apologize for the inconvenience but something had to be done!

Thanks,

DFS Staff

A wise move people can live with. I only received the one PM and he was history before I could reply; more's the pity. My retort would have been Homeric.

KAV, I don't think there is anyone on the site who knows you who would disagree with that. Big Grin

Folks, sadly, what andrewjs18 put in place had to be done.  We sincerely hope our new members will not find these restrictions too burdensome and once the fifteen post threshold is met there is nothing that will have to be done on your part.  You can simply start PMing other members as well as add a signature.  Welcome. Smile

I didn't receive anything abusive but I certainly understand the need for a minor vetting process. I don't think there is anything wrong with requiring new member to show themselves a reasonable member of the site before giving them access to every commodity.

There are some sites that require a minimum post count to sell on the BST or participate in PIFs as well. I wouldn't want to see DFS follow in the footsteps of other forums by any stretch, but I certainly understand the need for vetting of new members...

My guess is that the individual is probably lucky to have been booted before receiving your response...

People may call you and I a lot of things, KAV, but I don't think "pushover" fits for either of us...

15 posts is extremely reasonable in my opinion. Thanks to all the mods who are trying to keep things civilized.

I think this change is very reasonable and it sounds like it was needed. Thanks to the Admin and Mods for reacting, but not overreacting.

Sensible response to a real issue (though I, thankfully, did not experience it). Thanks to the mods!
