Depending upon where you purchased the razor, it may or may not come "shave ready". I had to hone both of mine before use.  Of course, there is no specific standard for "shave ready" so what is shave ready for you and what is shave ready for me may be two different things.

Thiers Issard razors are made of what they call "Carbonsong" steel which is C135. That means it has a very high carbon content making it a very hard blade. That can be both good and bad. C135 is difficult to hone, but once honed, the steel should hold its edge longer than razors made out of softer C100 steel. Thus, it can be a tradeoff.

Enjoy your new acquisition.

I have one of similar design and it has a wicked edge on it. It is one of my favourites. It has a Japanese natural edge... I am sure you will love it. Enjoy it.
