New Supply Pro / SE Razors

For the SE aggression level... In a way, you can think of it like this: I've essentially combined the three previous plates into one. The new setting gives you the closeness of the #3 base plate (provided by the "valleys" of the fins), with the mild feel of the #1 base plate (provided by the "peaks" of the fins). All of the user feedback has been confirming this so far. 

IMO it's the best of both worlds, and negates the need for multiple plates. The only downside for some folks might be that it doesn't have a lot of blade feel - but personally I've never liked a lot of blade feel in my razors.

The Pro will be up on the website either tomorrow or Monday, I hope! We've been trying to get it up all week but we've been running into issues. Working on it right now

From my perspective as I started the discussion / topic, I’m perfectly fine with you being here (I’m not a moderator or anything but I think it’s okay ). Communication and transparency is important whether you are a smaller or larger company - even more so with a small company.

I haven’t always had the best luck with your razors (tough beard and sensitive skin - thank you USAF) but I’ve always appreciated your honesty and open communication with your customers. I’m definitely liking the Pro MUCH more than V1 or V2 of your stainless single edge so far. TBH, I had a slight smirk on my face when I saw your email today about “airing dirty laundry.” I was planning on emailing regarding the “rattle” to inquire if my razor was unique in having that. Looking forward to fixing that down the line.

I still have to try the black label blades but I can tell you that my Pro seems to like Schick blades.

Shave #5 this morning (#2 with the Schick blade) was just as smooth and efficient btw. Looking forward to the next one.

Also thanks for the tip regarding the sleeve - I didn’t want to stretch it out so mine has been too low. I’ll carefully rectify that tomorrow.

I hope I'm not intruding here, I just wanted to chime in and say hello. If this is not kosher, I apologize - please delete. 

The Pro has been by far the most ambitious product we've taken on as a company, and that I've taken on personally as an engineer. We missed on a few minor things, but overall, the feedback we've been getting has been exceptionally good. I'm so pleased to be seeing the same here.

andrewjs18 I publicly shame myself and apologize for ghosting you. The last 9 months have not been easy ones - with this project, plus COVID outbreaks at multiple factories, the freight crisis, etc. No excuses though.

I'd love to make it up to you by offering whatever passarounds possible so that you can all give these guys (both Pro and SE) a spin.

I'm also happy to answer any questions. I'm a very kimono-open kind of guy, so don't hold any punches if you have em.

Shave #6 (3 with a Schick blade)

After moving the silicone sleeve up, I had a mostly comfortable and carefree 3 pass shave with careful touch-up. I was a little too carefree and nicked myself just above the chin on the first pass - no biggie but can’t be too careless at level 5 .

The Oneblade lavender shaving cream is soothing before bed (I didn’t keep the razor but their shaving software is nice). Hopefully everyone else is getting smooth shaves with the Pro.

I finished my 5th (almost)identical shave on a vintage Plus Platinum. 8th shave with the Pro. I used #5 two nights ago and was amazed what a change it was from #4 and that it didn't bite at all. The blade feel was over my comfort threshold and I paid for it with red skin, but I can appreciate the increased sensation of where the blade is. The increased feedback caused me to shave really light, not that I normally use pressure, just not keeping the blade tipped in. It wasn't really enjoyable for me and didn't produce any better result than #4. All that said, I was shocked that I couldn't find one weeper or nick or neck bump. And the redness didn't carry over to the next day. I am not going to give the razor itself all the credit, but this is such a consistent performance compared to the Black Label blade. I have one more shave with this blade on Sunday and will be terminating it early so I can have another try with the Black Label blade. If it causes me trouble on shave two again, I will either dial down or bin it depending on how much I am bleeding.

I had been waiting the past couple years for Shane to make an injector, but I think his plate is full with other stuff. I more or less stopped thinking of injectors months ago, but lately, I’ve been jones’ing for a modern injector.

An adjustable further intrigues me, so when the Pro is back in stock and QC issues* seem sorted, I’m sure I’ll buy.

*I get teething issues arise for a new product, especially something a little more complex like an adjustable.

I've been really excited to try the new Supply SE, I'm 7 shaves in and wanted to share my experience, especially since you wanted feedback. Well done, this is an incredibly well-built razor! You're right - built like a tank, corners like a sports car. This is my first time ever using an injector. I've mainly shaved with cartridges, electric, and a little bit of double-edge. It is important to know this is a very big change. The angle one uses for any injector is markedly different. I am training myself to hold the razor very high, but it is not familiar to me yet. That is not Supply's fault, all injectors are like this and I need to learn a new method. My advice to Supply would be to give much more detailed advice for first-time injector shavers - videos, pictures, slow-motion, zoom-in, etc.. There isn't enough info out there and if you want to convert cartridge/other users, make it easier for them to switch to the Supply.

Some folks say that one can't cut themselves with it, I am living proof that is simply not true at all. It is very easy for me to get nicks if I let the angle drop and start to hold it like a double-edge. Experienced SE shavers probably don't remember the initial challenge. I'm up to the challenge of learning and excited to do so, especially with the Supply razor! We just need to know it is quite a bit different.

For the future, would you ever consider any options to make it easier for a potential convert to transition to your razors? One idea would be to have a nick-stop SE plate where the fins are nearly level with the blade so there is not a positive blade exposure. Yes, it would mean that one would have to be at the right angle to cut, but also that nicks would be much harder to get and it would train us the right angle to use. Then once folks like me mastered that plate, we could move up to a plate like the current SE. If you offered that now, I'd buy it immediately. Just a thought for you to consider. Thank you for making such a great razor, I'll keep at it and will improve my technique.
