This is the first razor that I have ever considered buying a "back up" of.

This is exactly why I pre-purchased the silver anodized for this go around. Then I have a black and a silver.

That's what I am thinking of too. I also think the black handle would look awesome on the silver head and vice versa.

Huh, I never thought of that. Good idea!

We see lots of black heads on stainless handles in various SOTD photos, but seldom the other way around. I think it would look awesome.

Does any one have the ATT SE1/SE2 and also the General? The ATT SE1 and SE2 are my favorite razors right now and would like to know how the shave compares to the General (like aggresion, smoothness, etc). Also, what are the preferred blades with the general?

Hey there,

I haven't tried the ATT SE1 and ATT SE2 yet but I'd have to say, if you love those I wouldn't worry about The General. This is no disrespect to the General but from what I understand, the SE1 and SE2 are pretty aggressive. As far as I can tell, The General is probably mid aggressive, and a very medium shaving razor. Now, if you're interested in a daily SE shaver then perhaps The General would be for you, but if you have two top of the line SEs that give an aggressive shave, I wouldn't bother unless you are very curious.

I use Feather Pros with The General.

Am I right about the ATT SE1? Is it pretty aggressive? See cause I was wanting to step my game up in the SE realm eventually and potentially get a Mongoose or an ATT.

EDIT: I didn't want this to make it look like I didn't love The General because I very much do. I just don't want to see you waste your money if you're very happy with the ATT SE1 and SE2.

I own both. The General is better for my skin type (very sensitive and coarse beard). The ATT SE1 is more agressive and not as permissive as the General is.

I use the ATT SE1 with Feather ProGuard most of the time (1 to 2 day beard growth). A Feather Pro is the maximum sharpness that I can stand with the ATT (bear growth from 2 to 3 days) and most of the times, it leaves small irritations here and there on my neck. Besides, I find the razor (Bamboo handled) to be fairly disbalanced, the weight going in favor of the head.

I prefer the General by far. Ergonomy is top notch. It shaves gently, and it is very versatile blade-wise. I can use up to Feather Pro without fearing any irritations. Most of the time, I load it with Kai Mild. As of the BBS, it is more or less durable pending on the sharpness of the blade. With Kai Mild and especially with Feather Pro, the BBS is superb and obtained at every shave.

The ATT still is in my rotation because it is heavier than the General. As soon as Colonial Razors offer the General in brass or SS, I will sale the ATT.

I bought the SE1 recently. It's a nice razor, gives a close shave but is more aggressive than the General. I use mine with Kai Mild blades, the feather Professional that work so well for me in the General are rough in the ATT. The General is so easy to use it's almost mindless. The ATT has not bitten me yet but it could if I use poor technique. I too may pick up a backup for the General.

I'll probably be using my black general with a feather pro blade for the first time tonight.
