I had my third shave with my new Merkur 37C and I gotta tell ya I have never had shaves like this. They are so close and no irritation. I absolutely love this razor. I had been nervous to use it because I had read other post talking about how aggressive it is but it is by far the best razor I have ever used. I might go as far as saying it might be the one razor I can't live without. That got me to thinking, what is your favorite razor? The one you would have to have if you were only given one choice that you could take with you.

Mine would be my ATT R1 with Kronos handle. I used it everyday when I was deployed to Africa with my Simpsons CH2 Synthetic brush.

If I had to go with just one safety razor I think I would pick my short handled Gillette Super Adjustable. I love everything about that razor.

That sounds like a great razor and I have always been curious to try a Merkur. What other razors have you tried?

My favorite is sort of a tie, but if I had to pick one it would be the Edwin Jagger DE89. The other one is the Ikon 101 and the reason I say it's sort of a tie is because the 101 has a open comb side and a closed bar side and the open side isn't worth using imo. If Ikon made a 101 closed comb on both sides then without a doubt it would be my favorite. However, I have yet to try ATT or Feather AS-D2 so this could likely change, and considering the price I hope it does when I buy one of those.

I have tried many different kinds including most old Gillette's and Gem type single edges. I have an EJ DE89 which was one of my favorites but honestly the 37C is just great. I would like to try the Ikon but if I want to stay married I better not for awhile.

I do like the SA very much. I am actually trying to find my birth year and quarter model.

Vilhauer. What year and quarter are you looking for? I can keep an eye out for it.
