Naturally those who own the SS version will see the Core as a toy...not so much for the rest who want to try the technology and haven't the budget for the SS.

Calm yourselves...

You clearly haven't been sent a defective OneBlade.

Before I get into the shave I wanted to take the time to note some of the issues with the razor.  As mentioned earlier the total weight of the razor is fine but the balance is all in the handle with the head feeling weightless by comparison.  Many have noted a rough spot on the back right below the blade slot.  It appears to be where the mold was cut.  It did not have an impact on the shave but is worth noting.  Other than that I had no issues with the construction of the razor.  I had no issues inserting or removing the blade.  You do have to lift  up on the blade gently as you remove it.

For the maiden shave I went with the Feather blades included with the Core.  I honestly threw out all my techniques for SE and DE shaving and approached the razor as I would a cartridge razor.  Ignoring the instruction sheet, I did apply pressure during the shave.  For the shave I went XTG, ATG followed by touch ups along my jawline and mouth.  I do have trouble spots on the bottom of my neck in the collar area that are almost impossible to get BBS without irritation.  As such I do not try for perfection in those areas but do expect and achieve a near perfect shave over the remainder of my face.  The Core easily meet my expectations of a near perfect BBS shave.  Better yet it was done without any drama or irritation of any kind.

Is the Core the perfect razor.  I would say no because many want to test their skills and hone their technique.  I do think it will appeal to those coming from a cartridge background.  They don't have the high expectations of fit and finish but do want a good easy shave.  I plan to use this over the Core over the next couple of weeks and see if my initial impressions remain unchanged.  At this point I am starting to think of what I sell to get a OneBlade Genesis

Nice impressions clint64 & I'm glad you got a great shave. My Shave today was much better after modifying my angle. I even compared the Feather to the GEM blade with some surprising results for me.

I think in many ways it was easier for me with no prior OneBlade experience to just use the razor without having to compare the Core to the Genesis. If today's results hold up, I can certainly see why you've enjoyed using the Genesis version.

You are correct. I see no flaws with the one I received. Shocking to be reading that so many have issues.

Getting ready for my first use...hang tight.

I used my Core for the first time last night, soap was Nuavia Verde and the blade was a Feather. Initial thoughts on the razor, very nice for $50. Yes there is the mark on the back of the head where the plastic was likely molded, but not an issue to me. I did not expect $400 SS OneBlade quality on a $50 razor.....$45 if you figure the included blades are probably worth about $5 Smile

Good shave, I have extreme trouble with my neck and the V1 OneBlade was really the cure for that after searching through so many DE and SE razors. The Core gave me the same results in the neck area, which is all I was really wishing for. It did take a bit of extra buffing around my chin vs. a shave with my V1 OneBlade. That's ok, I can live with that. Going ATG on my cheeks I had to search and get a feel for it. Maybe it was angle, maybe it was the difference in head weight, but I felt I had to use a little more force vs. the absolutely smooth glide of my V1. That's ok, it was not irritating at all.

My goal with this razor was to have a true backup to my V1, and a travel razor so I do not have to bring along what is now a $400 razor on vacations and whatnot. I once dropped my V1 and bent the head. Immediately I was in shock, figuring it would be a $400 error on my behalf. Someone suggested I call OneBlade, which I did, and with a simple picture of the serial # and a picture of the damage, which I obviously inflicted, they sent me a refurbished V1 for something like $90. I was beyond happy, but still needed to shave while the replacement was in the mail. My backup razors did not do the job that my OneBlade could. After last night's shave I believe the Core will fill that gap if I ever need to resort to a backup again. And with that, I am thankful for this $50 OneBlade.

The results are good enough to consider me satisfied with the Core.

I returned the Core but have been using the stainless steel I have on loan for a few weeks now. The shaves are great and (with the owners permission) loaned it to a co-worker. The exact type Porter Stansberry, OneBlade's founder, was after. Downtown (Boston) professional who thinks nothing of throwing $70 on Fusion/M3Turbo blades at Costco's.

His response this morning after a few shaves and that of others I showed the razor and website to was it might be a buy at $200. $400 was just arrogant.

I thought those responses were spot on especially with people's reaction to the Core.

Something's not working at HQ.

I think clint64 is the first review from someone that doesn't have a SS OneBlade. My concern is fading somewhat. As I've started previously, I'm hoping this razor can be a catalyst to bring more folks to classic shaving.

At this point I'm thinking that there are manufacturing issues that need to be worked out. If OneBlade will take back the defective blades, no questions asked and put effort into getting the manufacturing right, then this razor may do well.

If this is worked out, I won't be recommending the razor to cartridge users if they increase the price. $50 is plenty to cover the R&D for this better mousetrap.

As an entrepreneur, I'm comfortable saying that startups, especially if they have investors, have to learn from past mistakes in order to make it. I do have concern that it appears that they started shipping product before verifying that the manufacturing process was producing consistent quality. This is the third time they made this mistake. First, they made the V1 out of stainless that will break if dropped. Then, they had the smiling issues.

Also, it sounds like the razor blade has to be perfectly straight to go into the razor, which will be a challenge for folks coming from cartridge world. I can't disagree in any way with folks like primotenore who are simply returning their razors.

That's always been my issue. I think it shaves great and would spend $200 on it. $400 not so much.

First shave. I do not own the SS version. I have been wet shaving for 12 years now and have over 50 late model and vintage DE & SE razors...fairly competent.

I saw no quality issues, unlike many mentioned in this thread. Loaded the Feather blade without issue. Monkeyed around lining it up in the slot, no big deal.

2 days growth. Lathers some Fine AB with a Simpson M6 Manchurian.

First pass with the grain was ok. Wiped away the stubble with no drama. The way it's designed kind of intuitively molds to the contours of the face. Nicely engineered.

Second pass ATG was also drama free. But...I felt like I had to run the blade over my face 3x as many passes. Not super efficient. Blade or razor?? Not sure which is to blame.

Final pass ATG..same as pass #2...not real efficient. I felt like the dude who youtubed his shave...over and over and over the face is not efficient.

I want it to work. I appreciate the design. Can't afford the SS version.

I may be sending it back. In the end, the shave was decent, close to BBS, no irritation. Still, I feel a bit disappointed.
