New Charcoal Goods Stainless Razor

It’s a really good time to be a wet shaver-especially one with RAD.

I was able to snag a Level 3 Charcoal Goods razor when they were up for sale a few days ago. Looks like all the razors he had for sale that day sold out quickly. I was too impatient to wait for just the baseplate to become available, so I got another entire razor, because, well, because.

The Charcoal has quickly become one of my favorite razors, both in looks and performance. The craftsmanship is remarkable and although I initially bought it for the looks, I continue to be impressed at what a good shaver it is.

I wrote to Brian at Charcoal asking him about the order, baseplates, etc., and he let me know that he’s going to be releasing a stainless steel razor! He’s aiming for a release this summer.

Cue the choir of angels!

Very high precision, 303 and 316 stainless, bead blasted finish, and aiming for a $150-180 price range. I think it’s going to be the equivalent of a ‘Level 1’ Charcoal plate, so the efficient end of mild, and looks to compete with the Feather AS-D2, etc. There will be different handles available as well.

It looks like one of those sexy 1950s sci fi rockets before barnacle encrusted busses appeared in movies.

Cool! I like how the grooves on the edges of the baseplate are machined on an angle instead of straight like you normally see.

Looks like a good razor at a good price point. Brian shared some technical things that went into the design, and although they were way over my head, it's clear that he's dedicated to precision on his razors.

And celestino that was my immediate thought as well-would love to see this available in Level 2 and 3 as well.

I love my antique brass Level 3 open comb. It's my favorite razor, for looks, precision and performance--all three. I applaud this strategy, which is not unlike what James at Wolfman is doing. I wish them both the best, as they are true artisans, whose works will remain amongst our progeny for generations.

CCity Scott: Couldn't agree more with you about James and Brian. The term 'artisan' gets applied almost too easily, but these two (and there are others, of course) take such pride in their work and produce such outstanding razors.

I've got a Level 3 coming, and I can't wait to try it. I like my Level 2 very much, but just want the extra blade feel and efficiency.

Never tried a Charcoal before and at $150, it's definitely worth a second look. Thanks for sharing.
