Posting Freak
This promises to be interesting.

I had an idea a while ago for the ideal hair for a shaving brush - Spirit Bear bristles - the spirit bear (kermode) is a white/cream coloured genetic variant of the black bear that inhabits coastal rainforest areas off the coast of British Columbia. They figure prominently in mythology and traditions of some bands of west coast indigenous people and there aren't very many of them. The best part other than the cool factor is that they actually shed fur so you could harvest the hair from the forests they inhabit standing a far lower chance that you'll be killed and eaten than if you had to catch the bears and pluck their fur. Now I have no idea whether the hair would be suited to making a shaving brush but I think it would be cool just to have one. Given the lengths you'd have to go to to get the hair and how cool they would be I would imaging they could sell for a good price.

Extremely cool- I love reading through your build posts and very much appreciate you sharing (as well as the end product).

Look forward to the exotic twist in store.

PS. I like horse hair brushes too; only have (1) Epsilon brown bulb [35% mane, 65% tail] and it is a keeper, particularly at $35!

I can see it now... The Holy Black Special Equine Hair Farm with diverse subspecies frolicking joyfully around with only the occasional requisite need to donate some mane and tail hair for the good of the shavers of the world! Once again, Equines along with Canines prove their worth as some of man's best friends.

Dunno about the dog hair, though. Don't think that would pass muster.

Neat! Out of curiosity, how difficult was it to work in the CA when you were gluing the knot?

I won't be using the CA on the next obe, I'm going to use a resin with a longer pot life for better capillary action. I HATE working with CA.
