Regarding specs. For those of you in the US, I‘m really trying to figure out what the fuss is all about. Is the Era not covered by the 30 day return policy?

Probably, but what about the plates? I mean if you don't get along with the Blackbird, he will refund or exchange. But what if you buy three plates and none of it works? If I get it, it's going to be on the assumption that I can just sell it considering the low cost. To answer your question more directly, refer to the still ongoing fuss whenever somebody decides to buy a Karve CB. In spite of the specs being published and plenty of reviews, almost nobody gets the right plate on the first or even second try. But yeah, the Era is a little cheaper.

As you say. Despite Karve posting the specs on their site, I still have 7 plates in my drawer. And you know what, there are days when I like a milder shave, and days when I prefer something more efficient. All of those 7 plates will get used at one time or another.

Another thing. Even if you do get the right plate from the beginning. Chances are, at some point you will get the OC, then a level up or down. Because, how do you KNOW you have the perfect plate if you haven‘t tried all the adjacent ones (see wolfman for how to do this with lots of time and money).

I ordered all 10 plates, takes the what plate is what guess work out of it. My experience with Blackland is they stand behind their products and want the customer to be happy. The way I see it we are ‘enthusiasts’ because we like exploring new things and having different experiences. If you have reservations about a razor move along and try something else. Life’s too short to be negative and it’s just shaving, try and enjoy it

I just pre-ordered an Era with a level 3 SB & OC plate.  I'm excited to try it out and see how well the 3d printed stuff looks & functions.

Kudos, Shane!

If I were you, I would order LV5. His new Era plates are mild. According to his chart, LV5 is more like Dart.

well, I'm hopeful that if the level 3 plates aren't to my liking, I can return them under the 30-day return window. I'm not sure if Shane ever said anywhere or not if the plates could be swapped out on their own.

Blackland Razors
He said in the last AMA video he did that you could return / swap out plates. However, you couldn't swap out the plate you bought with the razor for a new plate. You would have to swap out the whole razor. I believe it's just an inventory thing. In the end, it'd be the same difference: you're going to get the new plate (Just with a new copy of the same handle and top cap).

I like to start with the highest plate and work backwards if necessary.

having used a few razors recently that weren't overly aggressive but very efficient and held the blade tightly, I'm ok with starting in the middle and working up, if need be. only the shaves will tell! I may even give them a go for some head shaves, even though I almost always go back to my gillette skin guard as it's just way faster to use for me.

Hmm, I’m no retailer but that seems like an interesting strategy/policy. I wonder if the purpose of swapping out the whole razor for the customer is to have an inventory of “returns” to then sell as whole razors, rather than selling individual returned plates.
I assume there has been more than a lot of thought put into it, so I won’t judge.

Interesting idea, which makes a lot of sense too.

I wonder, if it's true, we could buy the razor even cheaper as returns down the road?!
