Covered in the Podcast and due to cheap cost and speed of CNC machined handles compared to the heads. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please. I've slept since watching it.

The handle makes sense. The base plates seem similar to the caps, and if I understand correctly, they will not be 3D printed either?

Are you sure about that, Padtor? There’s been an awful lot of fanfare around the revolutionary new manufacturing technology being used to produce this razor. And you’re saying it’s only the top caps that are being made with the technology?

I’m not sure. I'm looking  at Blackland’s website, 3rd bullet. Maybe, I'm misreading something?

I‘m quite certain the baseplates are also „3d printed“. The new production method is the reason it is still economical to have 10 different baseplates, where the least aggressive ones may only be sold a handful of times.

That makes sense. I guess I just misread the website advertisement. Thanks for clarifying.

As you quoted from the website "3d printed head". Head = base plate and top cap in my book.

Lathe-turned parts are very cost effective to machine. For the opposite reason, the bigger the parts are the less cost effective they are to print. Plus we cannot physically fit the handle vertically in our build volume even if we wanted to for some reason.

The top cap and base plate are both printed. Then the base plate receives additional cnc machining ops to ensure perfect shaving geometry.
