I own three Gem type and have yet to find a blade that I really like. Seems none of them are as sharp as the sharper DE blades. Gem PTFE are the best of the lot. That said, I still own them and they shave super close AND although they are not daily drivers, I still give them some time. I believe it's my grey whiskers that make Gem tuggy because others I respect enjoy them immensely. I would recommend picking one up cheap and giving it a go.

I've also owned 3. I tried a variety of blades and while I've have good shaves, great shaves, and OK shaves I found SE is not for me. I much prefer DE. YMMV.

I've been using de razors for a few years and find the slant razors (Razorock german 37 & Merkur 37c)  gives me the smoothness, closest shave ever.  Thought about trying a se razor but decided keeping it horned/refreshed, touch up was not worth my effort since I'm sure, at best, it can only equal my de razors.

i really like my straight it is unbelievable but i think one of my favorite razors is the weck sextoblade a "straight" with replaceable blades, it uses shaper blades and others the size of shaper blades. it is amazing once you learn it. I like the fact it has a guard on it (which can be removed if you want ) so its like using a safety razor that's a straight. Some call it a straight with training wheels. YMMV of course but you dont have to hone it , you just replace the blade when dull and the blades are not that expensive..

Try a SE razor, preferably one from Schick. It may not be easy to find one.

The blades I am using say, “ Electron Microscopy Sciences’'

These are Stainless Steel Injector Blades

I love SE razors and it's all I use anymore in the more aggressive versions, even a homemade version with no comb, just a bare blade. The GEM PTFE aren't sharp enough!!?? You sure you aren't using GEM hardware store window scraper blades? Most folks find them too sharp and harsh until after a few shaves.

Jaro, to try a SE find a GEM Featherweight, it's about as mild as one can easily find in SE. It would be mid aggressive in a DE razor. Blades can be found at Walgreens and CVS, but CVS has carbon steel blades and they will rust without after shave care. Walgreens has the GEM PTFE blades. There are other far less expensive sources for blades in bulk if you have the need.

The injector razors I never cared for since they don't talk to me in use. A GEM type razor will let you know when the angle is optimum. You can hear it working and I live for that sound in my shave.

One advantage to a SE razor is that they don't bite when they get dull. They just stop cutting efficiently. That caused me to see just how many shaves I could get out of a blade. I do it all the time now. The average is 20+ efficient shaves before it gets dull, but every once in awhile I get over 30 and can the blade out of boredom. When a DE blade gets dull you know it because it draws blood.
