My ancestors from where I come from called it konop. We still use this word. Same in Russia. Then Persians took the Thracian word and pronounced it Kanab.
After this came cannabis when our lands become part of the Roman Empire.
Vitus was the Thracian god of the healing and reviving properties of the Nature
BTW, in the traditional Indian perfumery, the attars (natural essential oil perfumes without alcohol) use Urdu terminology which is very beautiful. Very often they use the word Ruh which means Soul to indicate "the essence of". For instance vetiver is Ruh Khus (the Soul of the grass), the Rose essential perfume is Ruh Gulab (the soul of the Rose), the best Jasmine attar is Ruh Bela (the Soul of Jasmine) etc. The Soul comes with all inherent properties: vetiver has cooling effect, aphrodisiac etc. The Romans were using the same word Soul or Spirit. The alcohol was called Spiritus Vini (the Soul of the Wine). All this because Ethos maybe means the same thing- Spirit? So if the brand name means this concept (Spirit, Soul, Ruh etc) just designating the essential oils you use in the product is enough. Ethos Supreme Lavender = The Spirit of the Supreme Lavender. So maybe even without specifying the healing properties of the serum, the brand name is giving implicit description?
